Countries I have visited:
Bermuda, Canada, England, Sweden, Belgium, Netherlands.

And nowhere have I ever said the US is better than anyone. I have just been defending gun ownership and stating my opinion that more gun control does not guarantee less violence. I am not telling anyone else how to run their country.

You are the one saying why can't you guys see the path of true enlightenment like we in civilized world.

Well if somebody tells you that computers can play games and you don't believe him, that's ignoring facts and just being plain old ignorant.

Yes, there is no perfect comparaison at 100% but 90% exists and if an entire content with three times the American poplulation can live with a mix of gun bans and strict gun rules, that's a big enough sample to draw some conclusions of.

But who cares, tis not my county's children and students that have died needlessly. We aren't "telling" you to do anything, just pointing out the obvious.

EDIT: And another shooting... Wow.

Just to say, technically, India or Malaysia have a more diverse melting pot and more religions and ethnic tribes and languages than the US will ever have. Just some info (though I'm comparing those countries to the US, just saying).

but those 'tribes' are local/indigenous. the religous thing is probably open for debate as far as india goes, but maylasia is is what.. 80% muslim?
my point on this matter is that our country is derived from the whole world. there is no other country in the world that has as many different/ varied communities within its borders as the us.

what continent would that be sandok?
one thing i am getting tired of is peeps going 'another shooting'. like people getting killed by a gun is worse that getting knifed/beat/whatever to death. get a clue.

another news blurb that supports owning guns. it is also a cute story - http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18237342/?GT1=9246

India is tribes and indgienous people? We have a 5000 year history which has resulted in more mixing than the US has had in it's 300 od years, trust me on that.

Why does everybody thing malaysia is mostly muslim? It's less than 55-60% muslim. I know the US is a famous melting pot, but so is Canada (come on, Indians have taken over Toronto now ) And I dunno, England is a great melting pot too you know. Honestly, given that there isn't a "melting pot ratio" or anything for a country, I'd have a tough time finding out but I'm ready to bet that the US isn't that far ahead (if at all) compared to some other countries.

And what continent would that be?

Well hey, we have no shootings happening on a daily basis here. And this was at Nasa nonetheless, the space research center of the world.

Exactly. 5000 years for cultures to assimilate and mix vs 150 odd years since slavery was abolished here and we are not encouraged to mix. Ethnic diversity is promoted. Mixing would be good but many groups in the US do not want to lose their culture and heritage. It might take a thousand years or so to happen. The US is one of the youngest countries in the world and immigration, both legal and illegal is very high going in one direction, in.

This was a completely offtopic part. Proof is a quote of myself!

You guys say the US is the most multicultural country and I just said it isn't, so what's wrong? Trying to say in a thousand odd years you might be is completely well, I just don't see why you said that

Anyways, I couldn't care about this thread anymore, you've made me repeat myself a gazillion times and never once do you guys argue the specific and interesting points I make, instead, just beating about the bush. You compare Brazil to the US but when I compare the US to France/Germany, it's a whole other world. Ignorance is a bliss and I'll take it up. Oh well, that was a lot of time wasted.

no shootings? what about killings? the nurse & docs(from india) i have talked to say violent crime isnt any better over there. according t othem a lot of stuff stays & the local level & never makes it into mainstream news.
we r one of the very vew countries that hang all our dirty laundry out there for everyone to see. that has a large play in world perception.

I will defend my country Do you compare a Ferrari to a Ford? Do you compare a Core 2 Duo to a PIII? Do you compare a PS1 to a PS3? I thought not, so why compare a POOR country to a RICH country?

Secondly, this is the murder per capita (thus killings) of the USA: 0.042802 per 1,000 people

Now here is India: 0.0344083 per 1,000 people

I have posted these results before but nobody reads my posts Anyways, again this is a stupid comparison since I never intended (though somehow you guys have made it into this) a debate of murders per capita of poor countries vs the US. (and if ever, yes I was talking about europe).

Again another debate drifts off to a battle between American ideology vs the rest of the world. And arguments between what is and is not a valid comparison. The important details that gets lost in all of this is the waste of young American lives in University shootings, school shootings etc.

I definitely think that something is lacking in current legislation and/or the way it is applied and enforced. There should not be a system where different states and cities can have different legislation. I definitely think that the current situation is wholly unacceptable and cannot understand how Virginia can have a form where you self declare on mental health. Would anyone who has a previous admission to mental health facility and now wants to kill a ton of people in university admit to this in a gun shop when buying a gun? Things need to be tightened up.

We don't need to be comparing life in the US to life in India, Switzerland, England, South Africa or Brazil. But American society does need to reflect on what is happening in every town and city in the USA and begin an honest and open debate to rectify this needless, terrible and continous waste of young American lives.

On the point of gun deaths vs death by bladed or blunt weapon or by any other manner. Guns are used by all nearly all armed forces around the world as it the most efficient piece of equipment with which to kill. You can kill from distance or from point blank. You can eliminate a number of people one after the other before there is time for a response. If knives were equally as dangerous and lethal then our army in Iraq would be fighting with swords.

I will be starting a poll shortly on what you feel about possible changes to current legislation following a request PM'd to me by another DH member.

Of course we're off track when you don't argue the same thing

And have you been to India? Cuz trust me, it's a dump and you can't get much poorer than that. A country's wealth is mesured by GDP and India is WAY WAY WAY down.
