New Development in The UK

Labour goverment Minister Clare Short will quit the goverment if Britian goes to war without the 2nd UN resolution ... this comes after earlier today a Labour mp Resigned and more have threatened to follow ... tony blair is now in the position of spliting his entire party if he goes to war without it .... and without UK invovlement the US loses all creditability in attacking Iraq

their is still time to step from the brink ... hell saddam is a murdering P***k , but will Bush be seen any different from him ... war sux ... its bad for your health it can kill you

Not going to happen. The UK has already deployed thousands of troops. What message would that send if they pulled back? If the UK wants to be taken seriously, it cannot and will not pull back.

Perhaps, but it is also very possible that Tony Blair will loose his position as Prime Minister because of his support for Bush.

It's a possibility, Cherry. But Blair is hoping the British people will rally around him when Saddam is defeated and democracy is installed. And I think that will happen.

What a world..a dictator can do what he wants killing and threatening and the "free world" can not decide to do something about it in 12 years...maybe we'ld better all get dictators..
Does anyone else feel all our great democratic systems are just getting too slow and too indecisive ? Hitler would have ruled the world if things were like this at WWII

Its a lot more complex than this. All people want is to ensure any action taken has legitimacy. Is that so hard to fathom? So far very few people have been convinced. If Short resigns this could be the beginning of a crack in the Blair administration and the government could well collapse. Several junior government members have already threatened to quit if Tony Blair goes to war without a second UN resolution. Now huge cracks in the cabinet are appearing among senior members. The divisions over this issue are deep and growing ever deeper. Indeed with something like 60,000 UK troops sitting in the Iraqi desert right now one of the saddest things I have seen so far is the wives and relatives of service men at some of the now nearly deserted UK army bases speaking about how they were unable to support their sons and husbands in the action that they were taking. Some wives even talked about how they had went on the peace marches and had left their husbands behind as, as military personnel, their husbands were unable to express their own views.

This is how deep the division in this country on this issue are. I don't think its just to describe everyone as anti-war, they just want to be assured that what we do is legal and moral and has the authority of the world (not just the US) behind it. I don't think that's a crazy or illogical desire at all.
