Illegal immigration
ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION IS NOT A VICTIMLESS CRIME
Apologists for illegal immigration like to paint it as a victimless crime. But in fact, illegal immigration causes substantial harm to American citizens and legal immigrants, particularly those in the most vulnerable sectors of our population--the poor, minorities, and children.
Illegal immigration causes an enormous drain on public funds. The seminal study of the costs of immigration by the National Academy of Sciences found that the taxes paid by immigrants do not cover the cost of services received by them. We cannot provide high quality education, health care, and retirement security for our own people if we continue to bring in endless numbers of poor, unskilled immigrants.
Additionally, job competition by waves of illegal immigrants willing to work at substandard wages and working conditions depresses the wages of American workers, hitting hardest at minority workers and those without high school degrees. Ý
Illegal immigration also contributes to the dramatic population growth overwhelming communities across America--crowding school classrooms, consuming already limited affordable housing, and straining precious natural resources like water, energy, and forestland.

I think many 'appologists' are also like me...
We feel sorry for the people who feel their only way to survive is to come here illegally. But yes - they are draining our system just as the study indicates.
I would much rather see the mexican people - protest their countries mis-management - instead of waving a mexican flag demanding US citizenship/policy change.
Bottom line...
If you are here but NOT LEGALLY your an 'illegal'. AND If its a felony, your a felon. period. They should be treated as such. Yup even women and children as our laws dont differentiate age or sex. (take your family back - if you dont want them to be called, and treated like 'felons')

Its a problem for sure, and its a result of a poorly performing system. These people should be afforded a way to become legal. I'm sure most of them would love to contribute to the economy and society.

They already do that. But this is about illegal immigration. The reason that some companies and people get away with paying less than minimum wage is that the people that they hire, being in the country illegally, most likely won't complain to any authorities about the situation. I mean, why complain about the conditions if doing so will get you deported anyway?
Illegal immigration drains the money available for schools and healthcare, among other government services, as it is more than likely that none of the illegals has paid a lick of taxes (not including sales tax in this as that is anavoidable) out of their payroll checks, nor do they have any kind of health insurance to pay their bills, so we all end up paying for that in our own health bills as the providers try to recover the costs of indigent care.

Come on now...
You know that is not true. They come over here and treat our country like they treated there country. They are dirty filthy people. They come into a town and totally destroy it. Every mexican i have ever talked to that i worked with hates this country. The only reason they are here is to work our jobs and send the money back to mexico. They can work here for ten years and go back to mexico and retire and get drunk all day. That is why even if they are making good money and can afford to live in a house on there own they still pack fifteen people into a two bedroom apartment. Every red dime other than what they need to survive goes back to mexico. Look what they did to parts of Texas and all of California. Then you have the whole breeding issue. A mexican family will breed until they cant have anymore. And illegal or not Illegal once they are here and have children we cannot deny that child healthcare. I could go on and on but you get my point. The whole state of Oregon will be just like California in five years time at the rate it is going. Oregon has been my home for my whole life of 38 years and it makes me sick to my stomach how our government has let this shit happen to there own people. There should be turret mounted mini guns at every popular crossing with cameras on top. The cameras should be fed to the net and we should be able to pay-per-view for the chance to monitor them. I think you get my drift.............

So hypothetically, let's say instead of deporting them, they get properly legalized, and paid minimum wage after they complain, what then?

That's when they realize they should have kept their mouth sut anyway because now they are paying taxes on their income. Its kind of a double edged sword there.

But what difference is this from US citizens? US citizens could work for less than minimum wage and off the radar to avoid getting their income taxed...

The biggest difference from an American citizen compared to an illegal immigrant, not specific to a mexican, is the fact that 99 percent of the time the money stays here if its an American citizen working under the table. And if its an illegal immigrant working under the table then most likely the money is going somewhere else.

has anyone else noticed that if we don’t accept immigrants from 3rdf world countries we get attacked, but if we let them in we get attacked for stealing all their doctors and other professionals?

You are right it is a poor performing system. That system being our border. These people do have a way to become legal citizens - the same one that everyone else has, the same one they had before they decided to enter this country illegally - they can apply for a green card, they can learn english and they can get a job "above" radar and pay taxes like the rest of us. These people do NOT deserve an alternative way to resolve their status. The only reason we may have to give them an alternative way of resolving it is because there are so damn many of them that it's going to be next to impossible to enforce any sort of meaningful deportation. What I would love to see happen is to build a 700 mile wall from the gulf to the Pacific and arrest & immediately deport anyone that crosses it illegally. Once that is done we gather up everyone here that can't prove their identity & toss the on the other side of that wall or to whatever country we can figure they most likely came from.
While I don't agree with GSXR's ummm... stongly voiced??? opinon, I feel those who come into this country should, at the least, get booted out and forced to enter leagally if they want to be here at all.
I agree with Calinerti - I believe many would be here legally if they thought they could. Our current immigration system is screwed and it takes forever to get through. Most Mexicans have little opportunity in their own country, they are desperate and they see coming here as their only option. But, if I put a gun to someone's head and pull the trigger, and it's not in direct response to some threat said person if offering toward my life or the life of another person, then I'm going to be charged with murder & likely go to jail for some amount of time. Why is that? Because I BROKE THE LAW which is what these people are doing. I hate the condition they may have in their own country. I'm all for trying to help them out if they want to clean up their government & economic system. But, no matter how you put it, they are doing something that the LEGAL citizens of this country have determined to be against our wishes. They are doing it willfully & with forethought. It does cause a negative impact to most of the tax paying citizens of the US in all the above mentioned way & several others.
No ammnesty. Go home, apply to become a legal citizen, learn english, come back, pay taxes enjoy the good life we have here without worry about INS (not that any of them are worried about INS now but...)

Amen brutha.
There is so much truth in what you said.
I live here in Az. and let me tell you, you don't see a senora walking down the street or in a store without a bunch of ninos around her feet while pushing a baby carriage. Do you think they paid the hospital bill for those kids?? We, here in Az., have had many hospitals just up and close their trama/emergency rooms. Some just close all together. We had to pass a tax increase just to support our county hospital..
Don't get me started on how it effects the public school system.. We all know how it has diminished in quality over the years. The public school politicians aren't going to complain because they get paid "per head" in the classroom. Nevermind most are from illegal occupants.
We are loosing this country.
The goverment has let this happen over the years for a reason.. IMO, a couple of reasons.
1. Like I've said before, the population growth of the American people is zero if not in the negative. We need people to fill some of the lower educated, manual labor jobs.
2. Lower the standard of the American life by lowering the standard of income.
3. Support for the bankrupt Social Security down the road.
4. Voter fraud.

Living in California you get used to it because no one will listen. You are just viewed as racist and ignorent for saying anything about illegal immigrants.
What we need to do is barricade that border and probably electrify it it. We also need some severe policy change. Once we have stopped the flow of Illegal immigrants into the country then we can ship out all that are not supposed to be here. Their children can have a choice, stay with a legal relative or leave the country back to Mexico. Then when we have fixed things we can actually help Mexico to clean house.
In light of 9/11, the illegal crossing of any border into America should be a Federal crime.

The apartment complex I live in could be nice if they got the illeagles out of it.We live on the backside ground floor that has a 14 foot wide walk way between the building and the woods, they're to lazy to take the trash to the compactor up front of the complex they just heave it over the balcony and into the woods. If you walk out and into the tree line it looks like a third world country, sad thing is if caught doing this your supposed to get evicted
they dont. The apartment above us is a 2 bedroom just like ours, they have 10 people living there!!! Shit I caught two of the "men" putting their trash bags in the back of my truck one morning, around 4am ( I happened to have to take our dog out) those two tryed to deny they did it and didnt hobla english
well they learned to hobla DOG real quick!!! I've called Immigration several times. Finally they moved out and the head maintence man who is also a Harley rider let me in to see the condition of the apartment,it was destroyed
they had to basically redo all the drywall and carpets. I wish our troops were stationed at the border with guns trained along the fench line with orders to shoot the F***ers.

I dunno if any thing short of military action some sort of wake up call for Mexico will
do any good. The funny thing is Mexico has strict we don't want you if your an unskilled
worker immigration policy. They love that these people become "our problem". As they
flow over the border.
We need military patrols along the entire boarder to stop the flow of illegals and drugs.
we need Mexico to stop aiding people doing it, and to actually condemn this and actually
do something about it on the other side.
They take up jobs, drive wages down! even avid taxation as many are paid under the
table via kwasi cash. They also drain the entire system of public assitance. Nothing like
knowing illegals are are drawing socail securty, food stamps, etc..
we need to stop states like calafornia who are actually helping them! setup shop in the US.

extreme - yes! effective - prolly; likely - not.
I've had the same thought at times tho... only with those new un-manned spyplanes - make it a on-line game where players actually control one of them remotely - and charge $$ to play to make up the deficit these illegals have burdened us with... ?? just another one of those ideas when I was upset over this.

Knowing most people would crash the damned plane into the illegals and our gov would get sued for it. Good idea though.
