Quick seemingly random and mayhaps idiotic question
Real quick simple question. I have an AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Processor with 512kb level 1 cache on it. Now I believe the max CPU clock speed on this processor is 3 Ghz. Currently it is running at 2 Ghz with a temp range running at a constant of 26 Degrees Celcius.
Here is the question. How the **** do I tell what the actual FSB speed is that the system is currently running at? As far as I can edit the settings, the Bios currently has 200 Mhz FSB set in on my Gigabyte Nforce 3 motherboard. Basically I BELIEVE this cpu can run at 1Ghz FSB, some things point higher. How the Heck do I tell what the current proper speed of the FSB of this cpu is? and if nessecary, how do I adjust it besides me assuming and indeed, hoping, the current 200 mhz fsb speed is correct as it stands right now for this Processor? Please forgive me for asking a seemingly noobish question. I just need to get this figured out. My Eternal Thanks, Draconis |

the bios will tell you - if it's set to 200mhz then the FSB is 200mhz

by default, it is set to 200Mhz. and it's not FSB in A64 systems, it's called HTT
. A64s already have a 1Ghz HTT by default after the multipliers and everything have been factored in and what not. but basically you need to have a really pimp ass cooling (like phase change or vapo chill), some kick ass memory (TCCD), and an awesome PSU to be able to hit the OC you wanna get.

Um actually they do have FSB. Yes, the 1GHz HTT this is your bus speed. However, there is the speed the processor which is derived from a bus frequency.
Example. A64 3200 = 2GHz (200MHz FSB x 10) Your HTT is also taken from this base of 200MHz. HTT 200MHz x 5 = 1000MHz. You fiddle around /w your 200MHz setting to over clock. If you're lucky you'll have an unlocked multiplier, and can change the (10) to a higher number. However, be warned that most processors don't like a HTT higher than 1GHz, so you may have to lower that multiplier. In laymens terms. Processor speed is like how quick you can think. HTT would be like how fast your nervous system can tell your body to not or do stuff. If that makes any sense? |

it makes perfect sense
. and thanks for the clarification of A64s having an FSB....i don't know much about A64s, especially seeing that i don't have one

Thanks for the help guys. Seems based on what you'll are telling me, I was right about the FSB with my hunches, but I definitley learned something new with the HTT. My Eternal Thanks, I am grateful for your assistance both of you.
