Default Post Project Lamniforme: The Worklog [56k Warning! Lots of pictures!]

Project Lamniforme_____
Is this a big case mod project? Nope.
This is just a worklog for small mods I'll do on my case. Comments and suggestions appreciated.

Here's how my PC was running while the frame was out for paint. At least it was cool.

Frame was painted flat black. I actually missed a few spots but none that are visible unless you flip the case upside down.

The paint came out pretty well, but the flash makes it look a bit weird.

Mounted the XP-120 with a Panaflo fan and sleeved the cable. Test fit. All good.

Popped it back in for a full test fit because the paint is a bit thick. No problem.

Gonna have to paint those heatspreaders black.

Looking good so far.

I like how the I/O plate ended up but the back looks a bit boring now. Any ideas?

Everything fits in pretty well.

Here's a quick-and-dirty "sketch" of what I'll be doing with the plexiglass.

You have a plain black heatsink fan, and you're windowing?

I suppose the shark theme doesn't need garish illumination just for the sake of it?

I'm getting the idea for something mechanical, driven at low speed to sweep a blue "laser" led at swimming speed - swish, swish, swish, or a "knight rider" LED chaser with the leds mounted close together and angled, rather than in a line (and inside, giving a sweeping illumination)

It's looking good M8. Have you thought about cutting out the fan grills at the back, did it with mine and its a lot quieter and cooler..... I love the XP120, it's a monster

Do you rate the Ram heatsinks and do they actualy make them cooler?

Just ordered 80.00$ worth of Aluminium fans with Blue LEDs.
They look awesome and push around 80CFM @ 36DB. Can't wait to see how they fit in.

Hmm. Anyone know if I could simply polish the paint off the heatspreaders?

looks pimp...

and about polish the spreaders, it should work. Start with a really low grit (~100 should suffice) to remove the paint, then go at er

mounting evercools is a bitch at best, they don't use standard screws, nor are they threaded

Hmm. Guess I'll have to tap 'em. What size thread do those screws use?
[EDIT] Called my supplier yesterday. He informed me that the holes were indeed not threaded but that there was self-tapping screws included. Unfortunatly, he almost informed me that he was out of stock and would only be shipping them today so they won't be here until next week.

Last time I tried to install a Silencer on there, it artifacted like crazy, even in BIOS. Had to RMA the Silencer and a get refund. Sent several emails to Artic Cooling and they never answered a single one of them. Dunno, might just have been a dud but that experience is kind of shying me away.

maybe it wasn't mounted correctly? or you just got a dud model

anyway that paint job looks really sweet - you've tempted me to do the same. At least i'll know what my case'll look like I have the TT Shark aswell.

I mounted it four times, making sure that the cooler sat correctly both on the core/chip and on the memory. That's why I think I got a dud because it was a pretty straightforward installation and all.

great job so far dude! keep up the good work .

my ATI Silencer is working flawlessly, yeilding me higher OCs on my card. you're probably right about the silencer you had, it was probably a dud like you said.

i had gotten one of those fans for my ex-gf back when i built her rig. the screws that came provided in the case were really short and didn't go through all the way. i had to go on a 3hr. adventure into my dad's garage just to find 4 long enough, matching screws!

That's what Home Depot and a drill is for.

you know, going through the pix again, why didn't you powdercoat all your parts instead of have them painted? paint will begin to flake and chip off much sooner than powdercoated components

lol, true, *in a sarcastic tone* but 3hrs. of adventuring in a hell-hole of a garage is MUCH harder and more time consuming than going to the Home Deopot ever will be. Now who wants that kind of cake work?
