Mines hovering around 70 degrees C - but thats due to one of my CPU fans not working - applied too much pressure putting it back on after I discovered I put it on back to front to start with :/
Currently looking at a replacement fanless Zalman HS (well, maybe using an ultra quiet Pabst 80mm fan) as when both fans were working it was putting out a very loud 72db (total for both fans). And I do like my piece and quiet.

I tried out that delta a few days ago. Wow, it sure kept the CPU damn cold. But I live in a dorm room and the noise was quickly driving me to insanity. Heh.

One reason I'm avoiding a liquid cooling system is because I move my computer around alot - LAN parties and the like. So I'm not happy about moving it with water around which might leak and add extra weight.
Plus, I'd fill kinda silly going to a LAN, parking my PC and asking an attendant to "Fill 'er up"

I move mine to LAN parties all the time... I don't really worry too much. I am using a sealed reservoir so I don't lose water in the move and I start the system at the LAN with the side cover off to make sure there aren't any leaks.

I have a 60x60 6000rpm fan. Will a 80x80 4900rpm delta fan be louder? Why? (I am considering buying one along with a new heatsink)

I think the deltas for their size put out the most noise of all fans. my 80x80x38 delta was 48.5 dBA at 4900 rpm but it was also pushing 68.5 cfm. They cool really good but the noise level gets to be too much to bear for some people after awhile.
The easiest way to find the specs for your 60mm fan (cfm, rpm amd dbA) is to type the model number into a google window and then do the same for a Delta... then compare which is going to be louder.

That is MY kind of system! I hate noise.
Athlon 1.4GHz @ 1.53 w/ ThermalTake Volcano 7+ (underpowered - 7V)
EPoX 8KHA+ (Removed HSF from Northbridge, replaced with bigger heatsink)
512MB Transcend PC2100 @ CL2 and Turbo
GeForce3 Ti 200 @ 220/500 (replaced dinky fan with 25dB 6CM.. need to find quieter)
Phillips Seismic Edge
Seagate Barracuda IV 40GB ( SILENT)
350W AOpen (loud -- this has got to go!)
Sound absorbing rubber that doesn't work all that well
One 8CM case fan
CPU temp: 50-55C

System see sig
Idle temps 48-51, full loads 53-57 ( I only hit 55 plus with Prime95 going ) and this is with case side on, if I leave the side of the case off subtract 3-4 Degrees
I only got 1 outtake fan, and a crappy case. My mobo doesn't even have a fan either, the A7V333 has a heat sink on the northbridge

How can you people post your system and cpu temps and leave out the ambient air temp?
That makes no sence at all....
Your system and cpu temps are a direct reflect on the ambient air temp at the time.

LOL, Calm down there is no reason to get upset. How about you just ask... What is your Ambient temperature? It makes life a lot easier not to go around throwing a fit.
Now with that said.
Under full load (Prime 95) My Processor temperature reaches 46*C. that was with an ambient temperature of 27*C . Using a temperature probe on my handy dandy Fluke multimeter.

My highest temps while folding are 50C for the proc and 40C for sys. Folding is the only thing that gets it burning like this. I am using a dragonOrb 3 with two case fans.

Ambient temperature is temperature in the room that your computer system is operating in. For instance if your room is at 26*C that is the ambient temperature. If you have enough air circulation you can keep the inside of your case at room temperature. Mine is usually at or just above ambient. Hope that is of some help.

Ambient temperature can also be the temperature inside your casing - ie a temperature probe thats slap bang in the middle and not attached to any devices.
Speaking of which - I've got a DigiDoc tempature/fan/thingy device. Its got a note that says "Dont stick a thin probe between a CPU and the heatshink". Well, duuuuh. But then I got thinking. Would it cause any halm if I put the probe to one side of the CPU silicon itself and yet still underneath the heatsink?
/me draws a mental picture. The acutal chip size is about 2" square but the actual CPU die takes up less than 1" square leaving a fair ammount of room between the silicon and the edge of the chip. Thats where I'm thinking of taping a probe. Comments?

Sorry
Hey I'm sorry if I seemed a little pissed off but I just get so sick of reading (case) temp threads without ambient temps along with them.
Maybe it's just me but someone telling me their case temp without the ambient temp does me no good.
I mean if your case temp is 30°C and your running your computer in a -5°C igloo then thats no friggin good.... but if your room (ambient) temp is 28°C and your case temp is 30°C then that isn't bad.
Everyone understand??? | |
