Dual Athlon Processors?
Anyone had any luck with dual Athlon processors? I was just curious about running a dual processor machine cuz I see that the XP2000 is just 73$ at www.pricewatch.com . I don't think I would really every do this. But I am just curious about anyone doing it. Any success? I think that the cost of the MOBO alone would kill me.

Expect to pay $220 for the ASUS A7M266-D. Athlon XPs can be modified to work as Athlon MPs. You can get 1600+s for a paltry $50 a pop.

damn it people! you can't do dual processing with Athlon XP's! only Athlon MP's and Intel Xeons and other SERVER processors. They don't make dual processor motherboards for Athlon XP (or at least i haven't ever seen one)

I saw a cheap crappy setup on eBay before (months ago). But the product was described in the ad as dual Althons but the description of the product was dual XP system. Just said that the processors were 1.4ghz a piece...Dunno.

well, the person is either lying, or incredibly stupid. dual processors aren't a very good idea anyways, cuz with the extra money you'd spend getting two processors+mobo you could buy a lot faster of a single processor, and that way you would actually use all your processing power. (for the most part) the only programs that support dual processing are video editing and 3d modeling proggies, so, unless you use those more than you use games or other apps, the second processor will do absolutely no good.

Athlon XP Processors can be modified so that they boot as MP processors. The ONLY difference is one single bridge. Connect that bridge and the Athlon XP will boot as an MP.
You cen get the full rundown on how to do this modification here.
Here is a pic to give you the general idea:

I don't see why you couldn't ... however I fail to see the reason to set up an Athlon XP for MP usage... and then use it in a single processor application.

The MSI K7D is a better board then the Asus.
Yes, as WyreTheWolf mentioned, you can convert XPs into MPs.
Yes, you can use MPs in a single board.

That sounds like one of Tom's reviews.
I wouldn't trade my dual PIII-800E workstation for an XP2400. (But I would trade my Tualeron if anyone is interested... )
SMP is like SCSI. Once you try it you'll never go back.
