how high do you clock your card
mines currenty at 418MHz , 1070MHz...
i know the ultra cards are 400MHz by 1100Mhz but it seems the card is lacking...
it wont let me go any further very limited performance and quality in far cry

Some details:
Settings are at maximum performance, no AA no AF and nothing else enabled.
Far Cry is so far the only game lacking,(really grainy on some levels ) i get 30-50fps on 1024x768
If i turn the quality settings up just a little the fps goes to 20-30, and if i enable any aa or af even as low as 2x then fps goes down alot.
This is all with the card OC'd!
Motherboard: asus k8v-se deluxe
Memory: 2x512 TWINX 3200C2 Corsair
CPU: AMD 3000

are u using the stock cooler? most times you can get a better OC with using the AGP coolers from Artic Cooling. Just a thought
Also note, not every card is a good OC'er. Some are better than others. Just like some cpu's oc much better than others, even if they're the same brand and model.

Like Drakon said, I have a BFG 6800GT and changed the stock cooler to an NV silencer, and I am able to over clock a *good bit* more than previously.

I run mine at stock most of the time because I go through video card drivers like you go through toilet paper on a mexican vacation...so it's not worth my time to re-overclock every few days.
But mine will hit about 395/1.07 with "detect optimal frequencies", and my PC is fairly warm, so I'm not too sad

whats the temp on your card PJ? mine idles at 55-60! Ambiant temp is 42
these are my 3d mark scores using the 71.89 drivers and all is on 1024x768
3D Mark 05 -
All settings turned off, using high performance
5277 marks
3D Mark 03-
All settings turned off, using high performance
11,755 marks
4xAA 4xAF = 8142 marks
So is that about right, or good or bad...?
those are at the clocked speeds of 400/1060

what kind of card do you have (manufacturer of your 6800GT)? Asking because some manufacturers do not OC as well as others. Mine is an eVGA. Back when i had the stock cooler my highest game stable OC was 415/1.13 and average temps of 60C idle, and 85C load. Then when i got my NV5 silcencer, my temps dropped to an average of 50C idle, and 75C load. So because my temps had dropped down so much, my card has been able to overclock much better. Now with my NV5, my card can OC game stable at 425/1.16
My 3Dmakr scores are kind of dated, but you can see them in my sig.

420/1200 everyday gaming use.
But I have reached 435/1240 with stock cooler stable, but I don't want to risk it.

it's way better than air. Well, not way better. Water cooling has too much temperature flux. If the room temp is 90F or so, then the water will be ~10F flux.
I don't have water cooling, but i say this only because a friend of mine has a water cooled system, and he says when it's really cool, his water cooled components are also within 10F of the room temp. Now, he also says that when it's quite warm, his temps also go up quite a bit. He is unhappy w/his watercooling because of the incredible amounts of temperature flux he is experiencing.
But i guess it's also his fault for putting his system in his garage .
