System Specs

Gainward XP GS 6600GT PCX OC temps

Gainward XP Golden Sample 6600GT

When using EXPERTool, manufacturer values are 540 MHz core clock & 1050 MHz memory clock. I don't know why they didn't OC with bios. Dynamic fan speed.

Also I'd like to add that if not running EXPERTool, fan spins@full speed all the time.

idle
49c when not running EXPERTool@500/1200
51-52c when running EXPERTool@500/1200
- short comparisation -
I had Asus EN6600GT pci/e before this and it had 47c at the beginning and later it idled @ 57c, I RMA'd it. Had dynamic fan speeds by default.

heavy stress
71-72c with/without EXPERTool@500/1200
82c with EXPERTool@600/1200
- short comparisation -
Asus EN6600GT@500/1000 78c, later just before RMA 88c

All this with stock coolers.

Do I have too high idle temperature with EXPERTool(much quieter) @ 52celsius?
Shoud I use my card with it's stock cooler under stress at 82c(600mhz/1200mhz)?
I'm not gonna buy new cooling.

you arent gonna buy new cooling??

well, since your old card did the same, its obvious that its not gonna change no matter how many times u RMA it.

your best option is to underclock it, or get new cooling for it.

seriously. Cooling only costs $40 aus. its worth it.

I've spent more than 2000euros already on my machine. There's not much left anymore

This card is just 4days old. And of course I will use this@540/1050 minium if required. It's whats this is stated as.

I don't understand what you problem is, the temps are just fine. Your card can easy reach 90 C with no problem.

I understand his worrying about the temps. My 6600 GT reached 67c on a full load and I thought it was getting too high. I assume you have case cooling and not a rat's nest in the case, is that right? Rewiring did wonders on my ambient and cpu temps, I imagine it would do the same for you.

I have nexus breeze case, hard one to modify. http://www.nexustek.nl/breeze.htm
I have already all the wires and stuff nicely put. I've done quite a lot work with the layout of the things inside.

Actually I would like to hear clarify about is 82c too much True fact about it.

Yes, your temps look high. I have the card in my sig and it idles around 40-41C (never checked under load) - that's with an additional bridge chip next to the GPU.
But, should you worry about that? No! If it dies on you, you're covered by the warranty.

Guys, everyone seems to think that that 60-70c is danger level for a video card.

It isnt, these arent CPUs. some of you may not have seen in the past that I spoke with Eric Demers in ATI and an engineer in Nvidia. Eric Demers said the ATI boards can handle up to 125c before core meltdown/damage. Anything under 100c is fine, and will cause no harm to the pcb/card.

The nvidia engineer said much the same. I would however like to see under 80c myself especially if overclocking. 60-70s are perfectly fine.

I recorded my temperatures with rivatuner monitor running and checking maximum temperature. If I run 3dmark05 two times in a row(with 600mhz/1200mhz) and check immediatly temperatures when benchmark finishes, it's running at 54c tho.
