making a GPU
hey.
i wanna start a project, and i wanna make a new GPU.
im thinking that maybe if i solder on heaps more transistors onto my old Geforce 2, i can make it go uber fast!
what do you guys reckon?

or you could try soldering loads od GF2 chips onto one card and created a Geforce 2 super card!
or if you want to make a really powerful one use something like GF6800 Ultra cors or x850 chips.
If you do try this please take pictures

ok, so if i soldered loads of GF2 chips onto one card, will the standard Nvidia drivers see them? or will i need custom drivers?

i imagine it will work like SLi so just tick the box
If you try putting and ATI chip on the GF2 you would probably need to install both cats and dets
lol - this thread is random, but fun

i am mostly thinking that it wont work
my first bit of enthusiasm has been replaced by fear and dread that the card may well blow up in a hufe multicore fuelled explosion simliar to a nuclear test.

hmmmm, we need to think long and hard about this. Are you going to try and artificially increase the transistor count of the GPU chip itself or just solder them all over the board?

i have no idea :|
artificially increase the transistor count. (soldering them all over the board would kill it)

if i were a betting man I am guessing that this card will die if you attack it with a soldering iron
I would love to see you pull this off

ok, im still in the theory stages.
i figured that if i soldered on more transistors, i would need to increase the voltage.
what im trying to do is increase the transistor count so that it has more (du'uh). the more it has, the more go on and off, the more instructions per second (or something around that).
basically. the more transistors i have, the more stuff the card can do per second.

I have no idea, and I think it's totally impossible(not sure of course).
But I think someone could as well try, and make it be you

u are totaly nut dude !!!
Noway u can even run your card if u do anything with GPU !
Volt modding or better cooling for GPU or RAM is almost the only way to improve performances
If u hope to do a SLI card by yourself from several Geforce 2 u are dreaming sorry

yea its impossible to just solder transisters on it a old gf2 w/ a x850 core you need gddr3 special PCBs the list goes on and on, but a fun idea :P
