it was posted with some benchmarks results in the news about a month ago.... only at first.. i read it wrong.. thinking it was 2 dual core cpu's running a specific app.. but found out later that it was a type as they hadn't any dual core dual cpu setups yet that were not opterons...

the results showed that while running specifically in single core mode.... the program ran as good as a typical single core cpu..... when running dual core mode.... the same program ran as good as or better then a fully blown dual cpu system.....

But IMO, I still have a hard time beleive some of it.... they are either leaving out some of the specifics.... or something..... cause that's just to good to be true.... but hey.. it makes sence.... AMD is pretty good, a single CPU with dual cores automatically splitting the workload.... not a hard job to do....

Thanks Judas for the summary.

Can't wait for dual core CPU's to be mainstream. It's gonna be fun and kick start the hardware upgrade cycle again ! lol

caqde will become famous soon enoughcaqde will become famous soon enough

Venice core to be shipped (monarchcomputer) on May 6th(OEM) and May 20th(Retail Boxed) for < 3800+ and April 22nd (OEM) and May 2nd (Retail Boxed) for 3800+ and above.

Another reason to move to an Athlon 64 Winchester/Venice from an Athlon XP is that it is quieter and uses considerable less power. Not to mention it isn't as hot as an Athlon XP.

A Winchester(Athlon 64 3500+ 2.2ghz) can use anywhere from 11.1watts to 3.2(cool and quiet) at idle compared to a 3200+ Athlon XP's 40.8 or an 2500+ Athlon XP's 32.1. And at Full load the Winchester uses 31.4 watts compared to a 3200+ Athlon XP 3200+'s 59.8watts or an Athlon XP 2500+'s 46.7watts. Well at least they aren't the Pentium 4 500 series that use from 72.3watts(540) to 104.5 watts(570) at full load.

The cpu does make a difference, it's just not as big as gfx card. The other thing is that you're gonna want to other stuff with pcs besides game, at least I do. Moving from a barton 2.1 ghz to a winchester 2.5 ghz definitely showed improvement in games and other crap, way more than a 5% increase. The other thing is that AMD has great prices on their stuff. You can easily grab a winchester 3000+ for $140 and overclock that thing to a 3500 or greater on stock hs/fan and bearly changing vcore. If you're still packing an XP below 2800+ or P4 below 2.8ghz, go over to your local newegg and get yourself a winchester (or venice if you can wait long enough).

heh. I'm right on the line i guess.

Actually I originally had a 2600+ that had a completely unlocked mutli. It was truely beautiful(I got that sucked up WAYYYY past 2.5ghz which is my current wall for the 2800+ I got) but sadly my mobo was defective, and since they were bundled, I had to return both.
