Default Post Cannot push past 220 FSB with 3.0E D0 and PC4000 RAM.

As the title suggests, I'm having a great deal of difficulty getting past 220 FSB. If I start pushing past that mark, I receive BIOS errors. The error I'm getting is "Bad Bios Checksum. Starting recovery..". This error also appeared with my previous motheroard, the P4P800 Deluxe. I slipped in the original CD and that killed the BIOS and it no longer works. (So I picked up a P4P800-E Deluxe)

Here are the relevant specifications:

Asus P4P800-E Deluxe
Intel P4 3.0E D0
2 x 512 MB OCZ PC4000 Gold Rev. 2 @ 2.5-3-3-8 w/ 2.85 V
OCZ Modstream 520W
Zalman CNPS 7000B
MSI RX9800 PRO modded as a 9800XT
ThermalTake Tsunami Case w/ side window and side intake
SB Audigy 2
2 x 200 GB Maxtor DiamondMax10 SATA HDDs
1 x LG DVD Burner

I should also note that all those parts are brand new.

BIOS settings include:

Memory Acceleration: Auto
Performance Mode: Standard
Spread Spectrum: Off
ICH Delayed Transaction: On
MPS Version: 1.4
AGP Voltage: 1.6 V

I've tried the following things:

- Raised core voltages up to 1.5
- Raised AGP voltage up to 1.8
- Loosened memory timings to 3-4-4-8
- Used the 5:4 and 3:2 dividers
- Tried disabling USB Legacy Support
... I'll include more things I've tried as I remember.

I'm totally stumped here.

If more details are needed, ask away.

System Specs

Very weird since these normally OC pretty well.

Um...1.8v for your agp is a little high.

What is the rest of your specs?

Default Post

Yes, 1.8V is pretty high, but it's not at that level at the moment. It's just what I've tried.

Other things include:

MSI RX9800 PRO modded as a 9800XT
ThermalTake Tsunami Case w/ side window and side intake
SB Audigy 2
2 x 200 GB Maxtor DiamondMax10 SATA HDDs
1 x LG DVD Burner

I previously had PC3200 Corsair XMS TwinMOS and the system gave that error as well , but after an incident with a PSU power connector and one of my HDDs catching on fire, (Do a search on DH and you'll find the thread) I received a nice pair of PC4000 from OCZ.

Sifting through Google search results and other forums, possibilities such as dying CMOS battery, timings too tight (or memory speed running way out of spec) and too high of an overclock can cause this "Bad BIOS checksum" error. I can safely rule out 2 out of the 3 possibilities. I'm just wondering if I was extremely unlucky and ended up with a dud of an overclocker

SATA channels 1 and 2 on some mobo's are usually a deterrent to FSB overclock. Especially Asus boards (I have one that's famous for it but other ones here and there have similar issues).

Aside from that, you have the proper RAM and settings to be able to acheive a higher FSB.

Maybe the "Auto" memory performance mode set to auto runs the memory timings a bit to tight. Having it set to manual might help if there is such a setting ?

The memory performance "auto" setting is for "ASUS Hyper Path" AKA "Intel's PAT", which only kicks in at 200 FSB without mods. The only other option is "Enabled". I'm currently running on IDE. (Forgot to mention that)

I considered it. But I rather give up than RMA it since it would mean I'll be sitting here without a PC for quite some time and I may have to shell out money for shipping. Trying to conserve the funds after some expenditures.

Negative. This board is pure BIOS like most modern boards should be.
