??? Tempratures???

Well, a pal of mine on a new forum I just joined, has made a post and I was wondering if any of you Hardware Guru's could help him out.

Quote:

I'm not very clued up on safe temperatures for hardware...

So would you clue me up?

I've overclocked my CPU about 100mhz, it runs at about 52 C after playing for an hour or so...

And I've clocked my GT to 420 / 1111 ... running at 52 C also.

Any ideas on safe temperatures? Please!

refraction is on a distinguished road

CPU's are generally safe up to 60c and graphics cards between 60-70c.

it wouldnt help if you gave more info on the setup

6800GT @ 52C....that is usually norm for idle. if that's the temp for load, then he's got a kick ass 6800GT. what kind of processor does your friend have? simply saying "I've overclokced my CPU about 100Mhz, it runs about 52C after playing for an hour or so....." doesn't really say much. What kind of processor does your friend have, what is the stock speed, what voltage is it set at. etc. give more info like that, and we can help you out a little bit more

Okay, here's what the dude says about his system guys. Hope you can make something of it

Well 52C is the temp for load on my GPU, when overclocked to the MAX. So I must have a decent GT.

I have a Athlon XP 2000+ overclocked from 1.66 to 1.77 or something. Don't ask me about voltages bro, I have no idea. I just upped the FSB a bit...

ok, after knowing this, tell your friend that those temps are fine. tell him he doesn't need to worry about his system overheating. although 52C is load temp for the 6800GT still has me amazed.

Graphics cards can actually handle more heat than a CPU, most of the new ATI cards have a danger level of 100C, so theorectically anything under 80c is perfectly fine. as for the CPU yes, I wouldnt like to be seeing much over 60-65c full load.

52 for the GPU with stock cooling is hard to believe. My card runs that at idle on a cold day. Maybe he has an arctic silencer or something.

that is amazing! my 9800XT runs at like 63c at idle!!

altho i must admit the coolers on the 9800 cards arent quiet as good as the 6800GT ones!

You guys have been a GREAT help, thnx to everyone for all the assistance!!!!!!!

Oh, & BTW, I will ask the dude if he's got an arctic silcencer or something on. I don't really know much about Nvidia cards, so I didn't know this was unusual.

what would you recommend for my presshot? I was looking into the sp-94 for my CPU, but seeing that they're pretty much impossible to get now, i'm starting to look for other alternatives.
