Crashing when OC'ing

i have a GeCube Radeon 9550XT PE, and i can overclock it up to 465/280x2 with atitool in stockcooling, and checking the 3Dview there's no artifact, even with my games, the problem is overclocking will cause some of my games (e.g. Need For Speed Underground 2, NBALive2005) to crash, freeze up or restart, but with my other games (e.g. FarCry,Freedom Fighters, Sims2, Thief3) it runs smoothly with no problems? which seems to be the problem? is it with the OC? or i need proper cooling? even if i turndown the overclock to 450/275x2 some of my games still crashes, need help pls. thanks in advance

various games put stress on different parts of the systems.... It hard to say, best course of action IMO is to do a full check up on what IRQs are being sharded..... is there a conflict... what you have running in the background....

does it run fine at stock... if so.... most likely OC related

You almost typed the answer yourself. If you see less problems when you overclock less, this is a clear sign of unstable o/c, regardless of what ATiTool says.

What are the stock speeds on that card? 250MHz core and 400MHz memory from what I have read. Stock cooling is not gonna cut it for going that high of an overclock. ATITool is ok but I have run into problems with it before. I have seen my card start artifacting and ATITool let it keep on going. Run 3DMark05 severla times in a row and see if you get artifacts or if the system hangs.
