OK, done benching/OCing this A64 and 9700 for a while
Well I've run so many benchmarks in the last couple weeks, I think I'm all benched out for now. Never knew how much fun it could be trying to push everything to the limit scary too sometimes, but all's well. Kept my finger poised over the Esc key, punching it at the first sign of problems . . . everything is OK still. And after all that work out, here's what the PC has to show for itself . . . the best scores I got so far:
3DMark2001 - 20461
3DMark03 - 6336
3DMark05 - 2677
PCMark04 - 4605
PCMark2002 - 7691, 9092, 1250
Aquamark3 - 46796
. . . and the hardware behind the numbers:
cpu/mobo -- Athlon 64 3000 // ASUS K8V SE Deluxe
gfx/disp -- All-In-Wonder 9700 Pro // 21" Dell P1130 Trinitron
snd/spk -- M-Audio Revo 7.1 + Philips Acoustic Edge // Klipsch ProMedia 2.1
storage -- 120GB,8MB Hitachi 180GXP + 80GB.2MB WD 800BB + 80GB,2MB IBM 120GXP
optical -- Lite-On 52x24x52x CD-RW + Lite-On 16x DVD-ROM
case/pow -- Antec Sonata // 480W Antec TruePower
cooling -- AMD stock + ATI stock + 1x120mm case fan + 2 psu fans
the A64 really lets the 9700 perform at its full potential, I love it!

nice scores for a 9700pro vamp.!
and idd i noticed the same when i first got my A64 but didn't have my x800 yet, the a64 just elevates the 9700pro to new hights, a great combo to reach the full potential of that card.

I just broke 15K with my 9500 Pro. I love the card but an upgrade is on the horizon... X700 AGP would be nice.

Bah 15K should still be enough to run today's games so I don't worry too much.
Next year however...

Thanks for all the kind words, gentlemen particularly Chaos, a fellow AIW9700pro owner whose overclocking/modding talent I certainly look up to.
I just can't say it enough guys: I'm loving this setup right now <3
Considering this cpu/mobo upgrade cost all of $300, I'm extremely pleased with the results. And it's not even an overclocker's board (no AGP/PCI lock.) I'm sure there's plenty of members here who don't have the limitations of having only so much money to spend, and might not know the feeling of spending a little, but getting a lot in return. It's great!
It does whatever I want it to, and does it fast
The addition of the A64 has just made such a difference in everything. It has really allowed the 9700 to finally perform to its full potential. Of course, now the 9700 can be the weak link in games, but it still performs plenty fine for me for the time being. I'll be hanging on to it for another year probably, and who knows what will be out by then? In addition to games, this CPU just powers through whatever I throw at it. I'm especially satisfied with its perfromance in RAR compressing and video encoding, it's faster than I ever thought.
Here's some real-world numbers (at OC'ed speeds) for the people RARing stuff all the time, and the video encoding fiends.
601 KB/s in WinRAR (version 3.3 or later, just hit Alt+B)
60.9 fps total average in VirtualDub encoding DVD to Divx 5.
I was expecting maybe 45 at stock, after hearing all the "Intel is the only good encoding chip" talk. But damned if it wasn't 53.1 at stock, and 60.9 OC'ed

A 9700 Pro will only be a hindrance at higher resolutions with either AA or aniso turned on; but in any event the 9700 Pro coupled with that system should be able to kick some ass regardless. Pretty sick setup; congrats!

Well Vampy I've got a Chaintech VNF3-250, A64 3000+ (with an XP-90 and a 92mm Tornado), coupled with my ollder parts which include a softmodded 9500NP which core gets near yours, but the memory is infineon 3.3ns so I'm stuck at 294/296. Let's see if I can tweak and overclock my CPU enough to catch up to you
