overclocking 9800 PRO w/ which BIOS?

Hi. I have a Radeon 9800 Pro 128 flashed w/ Powercolor E-Die bios. I have no clue what core it has, but the o/c capability is the same as before i flashed it (could get it to about 420/366) could this mean i have the r350 core? or could the Gigacube E-Die bios be better? I think i have Samsung RAM (i saw "GC2A" on the chips)

oh yeah, here are some scores: (Omega 4.9 @ XT stock speeds)
3DM2001: 18721 (Nature: 132.6 fps)
3DM2003: 6705 (Troll's Lair: 38.6 fps, Mother Nature: 41.5 fps)
3DM2005: 2529
Aquamark3: 46,844

nearly any 9800 pro that his beyond 415 with the stock 9800 pro cooling.... is a R360.. (nearly)

some bios's give you better clocks by adjusting timings.. (not nessaryly improving preformance overall though)

i haven't played with rAbIT at all... or bioses for that matter

wish i had more knowledge in the area.... but you'll have to wait for a responce from someone else.. (if mine didn't clear anything up)

Look for a Bios date of "8-29-03" for E-die 9800Pro cards, that should get you to around 390-395 on the ram. There will be a "E" at the end of the ram part number but before the "GC2A" if you have E-Die ram. The Gigacube E-Die bios dated 8-29-03 is what I'm using.
I have a R350 core card and run it at 412/365 24/7 and it will clock up to 450/395 for benches............

Hi sbrehm72255,

I too plan to use 9800ProStockSpeed at 2D mode (AtiTool is GREAT!!) The most i could squeeze out of this BBA 9800pro with the stock cooling is around 420/390, but i'm not complaining (out loud) It does have the Samsung E-Die RAM modules and I flashed the card with the 9800pro128 ->XT bios. would you or anyone else know what "optimizations" are made available by having my card be recognized as an XT? (I don't think i have it on an XT board so thermal diode and overdrive are out of the question) or should I just flash w/ the 9800 pro bios and o/c? Perhaps I should invest in a VGA silencer as well... make it look like an OTES or something. would you happen to know how it compares to the zalman heatpipe? thanks for the help so far.

I tried my card XT bios and got nothing out of it except higher temps. There are some of the newer 256 9800Pros that are really XT's with a Pro bios , ao flashing them will help. I'm not really sure you would get anything at all out of using a XT bios with a 9800Pro with 128 ram.
