AMD 2500+ Desktop - Epox Mobo
hey guys gotz a question
i got a amd 2500+ barton
epox 8rda3i mobo
geil pc3200 golden dragon ram Cas Latency: 2.5 8-4-4 2T
2x256mb
k if i run at dual channel it works fine as 2500+ but i can't seem to overclock it to 3200+ by boostin the fsb to 200 it wouldnt work.
i can probably go up to 170 at the most.
but when i turn off dual channel...it overclocks flawlessly to 3200+ by boosting the fsb to 200
any ideas??

dual channel is holding u back from hitting 200, you can try relaxing the timing on your ram and uppin' the voltage, if not, then can't do much except to up the multiplier if you can

dual channel mode induces a higher chance of instability... i would try seeing how high you can get before it starts falling appart.... try 180mhz or something... just keep upping it till if falls appart... then bring it back down... slack the timings on your ram off a bit.. and start pushing on further... dependiing on how good of cooling you have in your rig... you could do what nuke mentioned... and up the voltage... some sticks like lots of voltage....but be carefull.. we don't want to not see you around due to melting silicon

true.... probably will see a better result from tight timing and the 200fsb... then dual channel mode anyways... also... more overclockable...

single channel at 200 fsb is def better than dual at 170
think perhaps single @ 200 is about same at dual @ 195
remember, dual-channel on Athlon XP isn't the same as on Pentium 4.
on Athlon XP, turning on dual-channel gives maybe 2 or 3 % more overall performance

well it depends, if you can use dual channel without having stability problem, then do so, some have gotten like 5% increase, to some it's alot, to others, not much, if you can't use dual channel, then stick to regular, you're not gonna lose much, if not, any

go into bios, check your ram timing...as you stated 8-4-4-2.5, that would be it's ram timing, i dont know if you have it at that in the cmos, but you can relax it by maybe, making it 8-4-4-3, (take it slowly and figure it out) and add some more voltage to the ram, that might help
