Overclock the system?? I think not

Well, after finally buying new PSU, new HD and a new case, I wanted to oc my system to the limit of breaking, but hell no that went down the

drain. Now when I am going into the softmenu (abit) and trying to oc the cpu then after reboot the I get the following message "system disk failure" insert the system cd and restart....WTF is that?? After calming me down I decided to reinstall Windows - yay and thought I gave a try again, but hell no the same

message turned up. I don't know if someone has had the same problem as I have, but my first concern was the BIOS but I do have the latest one istalled. All those money I've spent to finally oc my system is for geeting that message??

So my question is, have anyone had the same problem that I have.

its a Hard drive message not a floppy dive message

Hmmm....have you made sure that your pci/agp bus are fixed at 33/66....because SATA disks seems to hate when the pci bus exceeds default mhz. I get that very same error when i've tried overclocking the agp..

Also you can try to clear your cmos with the jumper

So it boots fine at normal speeds? if so your onboard controller is messing up when you overclock...see if you lock the PCI/AGp bus as stated.

Yes, it's boots just fine when runnig at default speeds, it's just when I trying to the the slightest oc just 10 mhz to 2410 then I get the message.

I haven't tried that, in my BIOS (I think you have the same one) I go to the softmenu and change the cpu to user defined and oc as I was doing before but I haven't really tried to keep the pci/agp fixed, but I'am going to try this now and see if it helps.

Thanks Cartman it now works, I'am runnig at 3,0 ghz, thanks alot for the tip.

If it weren't for driverheaven and all the nice users I'll be thorwing my computer out from the seventh floor.

...are you using those memorys in your sig? If so, in what ratio are you running them to get your 2.4 to 3.0? 5/4?

I had a little stabylity problem when I was oc to 3,0 and yes I was running 5:4, so now I'am runnng at 2,6 with 1:1, my memory is now at 217 mhz (434) and runs very good. When I run at 5:4 and 3,0 the memory is at 200 mhz. I don't now wich setting is best but right now is quite OK, a 200 mhz oc is'nt much but it's better then nothing.

As you propably know, its always better runing the memory in sync, but you would propably gain more performance when running at 3.0 considering the extra 400mhz. What voltage were you feeding the cpu @ 3.0?
And how much volt do you give your memory atm at 217mhz? If you still are on default voltage on the memory you propably could take it even further with a slight volt increase.
And could i ask in what timings you're running the RAM @...?

I run everything at default voltage, I'am not so sure if I want to increase the voltage as I'am vey unexpirenced with oc at all. Right now when I'am running at 2,6 ghz with 1:1 I have the default timings - 2,5 - 4 - 4 - 8. I have no idea what that means but my system is a litle faster, actually it feels like it's faster compared with 3,0 ghz in 5:4. But as I said earlier this is new gound for me.

If you want to get the most out of your system a slight volt increase is necessary, what hsf do you have on your cpu? But i think you will be ok raising the vcore to atleast 1.57v with the stock cooler without risking to kill it. And the ram propably will go a bit further with a volt increase as well.
Keep in mind that overclocking isn't an exact science, nothing is guaranteed. But since you got your cpu to 3.0 without increasing the volt, and almost achieving stability, i think if you just bumped up that voltage a notch or two your system would be stable.
But if you are happy where you are now, leave it as it is. But i remembered you stated in your first post that you wanted to take your gear to the limit, so give that cpu and ram som voltage!!!

Thanks Cartman. Well slowly but carefully I will experiment with the volt increase, because I do want to know the limit of my system, thanks for all your great tips and advice.
