Overclocking AMD XP 2800+ Barton

Before I begin, I apoligise if someone has posted something similar.

My system specs are in my signature.

I have a 2800+ barton and I've had it a while now so I thought maybe it's time i pushed it a bit. so when i was sorting around i took down the numbers, they are as follows :

axda2800dkv4d
y832976250188
Aqxda 0316upcw

now i've been told it's possible to overclock this chip so i looked on a cpu database site (won't say just incase there's some rule about it ) and i've seen the same chip running at 2.8ghz highest, which is pretty impressive.

Anyway was wondering if you lovely people would give me some tips, help, advice, instructions about how i can ramp this little baby up.

I am cooling with a Thermalright SLK-800A with an Akasa Blue LED fan (max speed 3900rpm @ 40 Deg ish) Voltage is at 1.6V i think, keeps chaning in this program i use to monitor it. :\

I'd appreciate the help!

Steve

goo way to find out is start pushing the FSB up to 200mhz.... but your RAM... has got to be able to take it... as for the heatsink.... using air.. you should do 2.3-2.5ghz no problem

My motherboard can take up to DDR400, think the sticks i got atm are only 333mhz to match the FSB of the barton ( a friend told me that the ram will sync with the cpu and performance will increase ) - was planning on getting some new ram anyway. thx for reply.

....DDR 400 can runn 333..... synced.. yes it usually gives the best preformance... BTW.. check your PSU..... it may be a limiting factor as well

yeh if your PSU is lower than 400W you won't get a really stable overclock

Heh, I've got a measly 300Watt atm coz my 550W Antec thought it'd just die on me...but yeh getting a replacement pretty soon. Obviously wouldn't start oc'ing now as half my fans are disabled and that is of course bad

300W is nowhere near powerful enough for stock settings let alone overclocked… but if u are getting a 550 as a replacement then that should work just fine
