knocked up my GFX card

I o/c my Sapphire Radeon 9700 non-pro card to around pro speeds (337/317) using RadLinker.
Not that of a cool overclock maybe but it got me an extra 800 points in 3dMark-03. Just wanna to check if someone thinks that's good for my computer.

Got about 5100 points in 3dmark03

To what you really ment... yeah that isn't a bad overclock, is that your max artifact free overclock? Or have you tried pushing it further?

Well, I ran both 3dmark 01 and 03 without artifacts and some games. Don't know if I can the card any further. And since I don't have any temp reader on the card I don't want to either

If you are going for a big OC, you may want to consider a better cooling solution. The stock cooling on the 9700 series isn't the best in the world, but it works fine for box stock.

OT: I am curious though, your thread title is why I clicked on this thread.......how do you get your video card pregnant?? I am not picking on your english, just enjoying the laugh. In the US and some other places, "knocked up" means to get pregnant!! Just thought I would share that with you incase you didn't know.

Ok...we are starting to get into a wierd area here. I know that my english sucks, and that I may have been sleeping at the english class in school.
But hey, let's get back to the subject...well not that I knocked my graphic card, but that I'm trying to get a descent overclock on my non-pro 9700 card.

How much further should I get with the stock cooler?? The fan really sucks and I will soon change it.

I can try to push it until you start to see weird stuff on your screen, but the extra heat could damage your card, so be careful and dont let it get too hot. If I were you I would test it up to the highest clock you can get with normal screens, so that when you get the new cooler you will know how much you gained. But if you are going to game with it at an overclocked rate.....then you really should wait until you get better cooling, and make sure that you have plenty of case cooling.

Well I think I'll just stop at 325/300. I don't wanna take any risks since the cooler isn't the best.

I dont think anyone was making fun of your english in here, native english speaking people seem to think its the only language in the world, so excuse them

Thats a good overclock on your card have you ran nature test in 3dmark to ensure you arent getting any abnormalities - meaning "spiking" or white dots and the like? have you good temperatures in your case? personally I wouldnt push it too hard with stock cooling.

Got two Papst 12db fans both in front and back of the case. Around 28 degrees inside the case at some hours of normal use. (few hours of games, some surfin and stuff)

I set the card at pro speeds now (325/310).

Well... On my Sapphire 9700np I seem to have been rather lucky - it ran beautifully on 410MHz for a few months - I haven't bothered with it for a while atm so it is currently running at stock - I think I managed to push about 5700 3dmarks 03 points out of it... I'll have a look at my uploaded scores - back in a min

I think I might have some fun modding it soon... I have a little money to waste and I will be getting an R420/NV40 as soon as the better one is released

whow...that's some pretty neat speeds. stock cooling or water or some other stuff???
don't wanna get the card to be TOO hot, since I would like to have it to work some more months.

hmm sounds quite interresting.
360mhz on the GPU seems to be maximum. After that strange stuff begins to happen in UT2003 in 1600x1200 with Optimal Quality. 340mhz is max in Trolls Lair of 3DMark03. After that I get white sparks.
Haven't topped the memories yet but 310 should be enough.

Using the nature scene on 3DMark2001SE is a quick and easy way to test your overclock, easier than having to wait for it to get through 3DMark2003. Looking at the 360 to 340 difference you are getting, the 340 is most likely closer to what you are capable of, since the Trolls Lair will push your card a bit more.

Something that may help you a bit on finding your max overclocks would be ATI Tool . BUT USE IT AT YOUR OWN RISK!!! I use it for testing a cards overclock and to see what works out best for my card. It also allowed me to get a max overclock for comparison before I changed to an aftermarket cooling solution. This way I knew what I gained.

But like I said...USE IT AT YOUR OWN RISK. Just like any overclocking program, or running alot of benchmarks on overclocks, excessive heat can damage your card. So pay attention when or if you are using it.

Well I set the card back to stock speeds now. Seems that the computer got less stable when overclocked at those speeds.

Have you tried the Omega drivers? Maybe you will get what you are wanting with those drivers for your card. I am sure that you have seen quite a bit of talk on the soft mod options of various driver packs. But if you are wanting to get into overclocking.....there is only one word you need to concern your self with "temperature"

I am using the latest omega drivers, those basted on the Catalyst 4.3. And there's no temp reader on my graphic card so...
And I don't wanna take the risk that my card will burn up, because I don't have that much money to buy me a new one...well not yet

i just put a vga silencer on my 9700pro for about $20. You can get them for even less too i believ. its big and takes up a pci slot but it definitely does its job. and i like it when it does its job right. makes me happy.
