??? Artic Silver 5

Just wondering if those of you using this paste have seen any drops in temperatures or increased performance with the so called "settling in" period of time - I think its around 200 hours right?

there is only a couple of degree's C difference......not really noticable. That is why I just use the Ceramique....very little difference in temp, easy clean up.....and not conductive AT ALL!! Also a lot cheaper. Tried it....wasn't impressed for the price.

ive been testing both and I have to say ive found a good 3c difference with the AS5 with watercooling, under load, no difference at idle. It is expensive though.

I edited the above post of mine.

The price is what makes it not worth it to me.....not to mention the mess if you get it on something.

I've experienced a 3-4degrees drop under load temps compared to ceramique...and i am a bit posessed about my temps(ask Zardon LOL), so im happy

funny after talking to you I cleaned off the ceramique and tried the AS5, there is a difference with load temps, especially with the watercooling. obviously the silver is doing something worthwhile

also I think the word you are looking for is obsessed bud, unless we have ghosts in our rigs.

yea but most people only see at most 1c to 2c drop over ceramique

yeah most people might but I dont, thats the point im trying to make, maybe its especially good for watercooling.

You got to figure too people don't necessarily put it on right. They may have put down or been more liberal with the Ceramique application and more careful with the artic silver 5 that would explain the temp differences also artic Ceramique has a long arse burn in period too!

Description
The high-density, ceramic-based thermal compound specifically designed for modern high-power CPUs and high-performance heatsinks or water-cooling solutions.

Made with micronized aluminum oxide, boron nitride and zinc oxide.

Ceramique uses a high-density layered composite of five unique shapes of thermally conductive aluminum oxide, boron nitride and zinc oxide sub-micron particles to maximize particle-to-particle contact area and thermal transfer.

This exclusive combination provides performance exceeding most metal based compounds.

Controlled triple phase viscosity.

Ceramique does not contain any silicone.

The suspension fluid is a proprietary mixture of advanced polysynthetic oils that provide superior performance and long-term stability.
[b]
During the system's initial use, the heat from the CPU lowers the viscosity of the compound to enhance the filling of the microscopic valleys and ensure a minimum bond line between the heatsink and the CPU core. Then the compound thickens slightly over the next 100 to 300 hours of use to its final consistency designed for long-term stability.
[b]
(This should not be confused with conventional phase change pads that are pre-attached to many heatsinks. Those pads melt each time they get hot then re-solidify when they cool. The viscosity changes that Ceramique goes through are much more subtle and ultimately much more effective.)

Excellent Stability.

Ceramique is engineered to not separate, run, migrate, or bleed.

Electrical Insulator.

Ceramique does not contain any metal or other electrically conductive materials. It is a pure electrical insulator, neither electrically conductive nor capacitive.

Wide Temperature Limits.

Peak: – 40°C to >180°C

Long-Term: – 40°C to 140°C

Industry Leading Performance.

2 to 10 degrees centigrade lower CPU full load core temperatures than standard thermal compounds or thermal pads.

When measured with a calibrated thermal diode imbedded in the CPU core.

Easy Clean Up.

Ceramique can easily be cleaned from CPUs and heatsinks with isopropyl alcohol or any of the cleaners listed in the product instructions.

Innovative Dispenser.

The 2.7-gram Ceramique is the first product available in our proprietary thermal compound syringe. Our new syringe is more compact, easier to handle and dispenses a higher percentage of its content than standard industrial or medical syringes. The amount of compound remaining in the syringe is easy to determine as the rear of the plunger is perfectly flush with the flange when the syringe is empty.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ceramique is sold in:

2.7-gram syringes. (About 1cc)
At a layer 0.003" thick, one tube will cover approximately 20 square inches.

22-gram syringes. (About 8cc)
At a layer 0.003" thick, one tube will cover approximately 160 square inches.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Important Reminder:
Due to the unique shapes and sizes of the particles in Ceramique, it will take a minimum of 12 hours to achieve maximum particle to particle thermal conduction and for the heatsink to CPU interface to reach maximum conductivity. (This period will be longer in a system without a fan on the heatsink.) On systems measuring actual internal core temperatures via the CPU's internal diode, the measured temperature will often drop slightly over this "break-in" period.

Actually I think thats a reason why some people have high temperatures, they put too much paste on the CPU and its not transferring the heat correctly to the heatsink.

Yep, I'll agree, AS5 requires more care in it's application than other TIMs.

Also most people try to install it like AS3 - rubbing it into the bottom of the heatsink. It's far too stiff for this.
