CPU cooler ???
I have a TT Volcano9 on my XP2600+ and have to run it almost full speed to keep things cool and the noise is driving me and my wife mad. I am looking for a replacement that will cool things down and not make me go deaf

Thermalright man, I just got an SLK900A a few days ago and I'm going to install it tonight. You can put a big slow 92mm fan on it for almost total silence. I'm putting a Tt clear blue led smartfan on it - its' an 80mm fan that I can control with a knob, or let the temp sensor control. The (A) models have the clips, the (U) models use the screws -better, but more of a pain to install.
http://www.thermalright.com/ <--- look here for compatibilty- they are expensive, but well worth it.
I got my SLK 900 for 30 bucks. It's 32.99 now. here---> BestByte

It is very hard to beet the SLK-900 heatsinks with a 92mm fan. IF you aren't overclocking, even a standard 80mm case fan will keep it at or below 40c with almost no noise. But the use of a 92mm fan will allow you to have plenty of room for those summer months. Another source for them is also www.newegg.com .

I don't see the Biostar nForce2 M7NCG 400 listed in any of the Thermalright's compatibility lists though, so you may want to ask biostar (or if they have a forum, some people who own that mobo) which ones if any of Thermalright's heatsinks fit on that mobo.

Thanks
I need to do that, i have a mid-case and the TT cooler is within an inch of the PSU and blocks half of the btm fan.

Um, that mobo is a MICRO-ATX board?? Do you have it in a really small case or something?
Does it look like this?
http://www.bjorn3d.com/_preview.php?...247&pageID=251
If so, it looks like you won't be able to use any of the "U" models, but it looks like you probably could use the "A" models- like the 900A or even the 800A if the 900 doesn't fit. The only thing that looks like it could pose a problem is that one capacitor right on the left at the bottom of the socket- but I bet the heatsink will clear it.
I'd buy the 900A from NewEgg though, because they are MUCH better at RMA's than most online retailers. BestByte has good prices, and that's why I shop there sometimes, but I wouldn't buy anything from them that I think I might have to RMA, at least I wouldn't if it was more that 20 bucks. The one at NewEgg is only 5 more dollars anyway.

Oh, get some Arctic Silver Ceramique and follow the directions carefully, this will allow you to have your fan running even slower to get the same temps.

You'll be all set.
EDIT-
just saw you're above post- Yeah I bet it will work, but you will probably have to use an 80mm fan, but that's OK, I've seen tests where 80mm fans cooled better for some reason. I bet it will work, plus I would make sure you have a fan in every available spot you can in your case, just get a fan controller to turn them down to cut the noise, then your case temps will be cooler and your CPU fan won't need to run as fast.

My barton 2500+ was in the 50 range at 2.6ghz with a Vantec AeroFlow TMD HS/F. Your HS/F is only as good as the airflow you have going through your pc. The better the transfer of air, the better your cpu will run, the higher it could OC, and the more stable it will be.

I have no problem with cooling, i was afraid of that when i upgraded from the 1800+, because the valcano9 is only rated up to a 2600+. I can turn the smart fan down to around 3k rpm and my cpu runs around 34C at idle and just internet surfing. If i turn the fan wide open 4900 rpm and play DS the most graphic intense game i have, for an hour or so my cpu will go up to around 42C the highest i have seen is 43C. It's the noise of the smart fan on the cooler. I have two 80mm coolermaster case fans, two fan psu and a two fan coolermaster hd fan.

I did a little research and the Thermalright coolers wil not fit on my mobo. So i will have to look elseware. I need some opinions on if i realy need a new cooler, i know to cooler your cpu runs the better and i feel the same way or i would not be looking to replace mine, they are a pain to remove and the chances of damaging your cpu core are very high, especially with the Thermaltake coolers, they have a very strong retaining clip. I ran my system with the fan at full speed and saw 35c idle and at load 47c, are these temps within the safe range ? I think my core temp max according to AMD is 85c . I have not laped my cooler, if this might help? If all think i need to upgrade, what brand should i be looking for ?

Thanks a million for doing the research for me, It looks just like what i am looking for, not too big and not too small but gets the job done. I am not an overclocker, thats why i upped to the 2600+ from the 1800+ and my TT9 is so big it covers over halt of my psu's lower fan. This looks like its a lot shorter
