Why do you overclock?
The last time I built my own system it was a pentium 233mmx
After that it was several Dells after another.
I just got a hair up my nether region and built my own pc. After a few frustrating hours of remembering where everything goes it runs smooth as silk. Now that the excitement of putting it together is gone I still want to work on it. So I got several utilities to keep it running smooth like System Mechanic from iolo.
I really don't have anything else to do to it for the time being. So I turned to possibly oc'ing it. I certainly don't need to oc it to run anything in particular but I just feel like doing it to give me something to do in my spare time during the winter. By the time my computer becaomes slightly above average I will have put together a new one.
This begs a question....why do people oc their system? Is it for getting the highest benchmark, just to see if you can, or because you need to so your system can run programs at reasonable speeds.
Just like to hear from the community.

I guess there are generally these reasons:
1a) Save money (can afford, but don't want to pay for top notch components.)
1b) Save money (can't afford, but can't play games reasonably/want to stretch out system.)
2) See how fast your system goes, i.e. - curiosity.
3) Bragging rights (see Zardon! just kidding bro! )
4) You already have the fastest components you can possibly get, and it's not enough for you (wouldn't know why though.)
5) Hobby. If nothing else, to understand your computer or computers more.

My reasons:
(1) Save money. For example, when I bought my 2.4GHz FSB533 CPU, it was going for around $190. A 2.8GHz was going for well over $250.00. By overclocking my CPU, I save money and get a similar level of performance to the more powerful CPUs.
(2) Increase in performance.
(3) Feels good when you pull an overclock.

I do it just for a fun little hobby. I dont take it to insane levels as I prefer stability anyday. It is fun though to tweak out a system and plus like it has already been said it is free performance!!!

Right now I don't. But tomorrow, I would be dumb not to . I'll see if I can get my 2200+ 1.8GHz to 2.5GHz That would be nice!
Is anyone overclocking a 2200+ right now. What are your FSB/multiplier settings?

The main reason for me. I don't care that much about the increase in performance, I'm usually happy enough with what I can afford...
It's more like a sport, if you want.

The fastest out there isnt fast enough for me. I had a 9800pro, and I needed to overclock it because its too slow, I have a barton 3000+ that I need to overclock because its too slow, I voltmodded my mobo (233MHz completely stable right now) because its too slow. I always try to buy the components that have the best potential speed, even if it means buying a higher end one. Sometimes I cant afford to though. (Thats why I'm stuck with my r9700pro right now)
