Too hot?
Hey guys...
Sometimes my temps get to 54 degrees C on the CPU and 60 Degrees C on the CPU diode. Is this too hot? CPU voltage is 1.74v

It is a bit hot - my cpu @ 1.725V 214x11 runs at 50^C load and 45^C Idle

....it's hard to say...... but check your mobo... and see if it could be possibly notoriase for reporting temps incorrectly.... i don't beleive my mobo's temp readings.. i'd go by a solid sensor...

Hi Neon,
I am using a vantec aeroflow HSV CPU cooler.
Last night I went and got a drill and cut two side pannels in the case for my two extra chasis fans. I will install em tonight - hopefully this will reduce the temps.

well ...
I seen systems hit 52C and crash... i seen sytsems running low 50's and totally hose the L2 cache.... thats why I say never over 50.. I've seen them pop (themal death) @ 54/55C in the shop.
just for referance...
I useing an slk 800u/as3... i'm getting 28C/30C with my 2500+ and about 38C/40C when o/c 2 3200+
I like to see @ max 45C but anything under 50 is acceptable. I understand bios readeings/probe reading differ and some are innaccurate.. but I would classify any amd system 50C or hotter too hot unless its a p4
also if it hits 50C full load if the the room temps increase a bit (like in winter with the heat on or in the summer)you'll end up with issues . for me is a rule of thumb that has served my quite well....

What does AMD say for barton 2500?
I find that people tend to get paranoid real easy for temps , it all depends on your system but most AMD's are able to handle upwards of 60C

Well last night, she got to 62 degrees full load (CPU Diode) and 54 degrees CPU. Nothing has crashed yet. Buit this doesnt mean things are acceptable.
I took my CPU fan off and applied some thermal paste after cleaning the copper plate and CPU. tonight i apply two more chasis fans (vantec) and with my new case MOD things should run cooler. It is a 38 degree day today and I have no air condioning.[
Perhaps I shold set up a slush fund for Funky monkeys new air con!!! were you donate a dollar!

well you can always look at this I am not gonna say its 100% but all the stats are right from the companies in question and why would anyone spend that much time to put all that together if it was not close to the truth

yea but many probes are inaccurate.... i've never seen amd make it to 60C ... and live... out of the hunderds upon hundreds of systems i've seen ... i'm only talking from personal experiance here....
by that a 2500+ and a 2800+ put out the exact same amout of heat thats hard 2 buy.... i've herd many people question these figures but i tend to try to shy from that.
just like if you ask an amd technican face 2 face as i have and not getting an answer for the proper voltage for a paticular cpu? there not a right answer becouse it varrys.... its set @ the factory but it not all the same ...and some time higer cpus are underclocked and sold as he lesser due 2 supply.... so theres no exact answer
for exaple i've seen like 1 ghz cpu's from factory locked @ like 1.58V, 1.62v,1.65,1.68,1.72
i dont rember exactly but were taking lazer locked reading the cut bridges... it not often but i have seen some wierd ones

I wouldn't let my CPU go past 55C, thats a little too hot man. But maybe not for the CPU?

hey neon cowboy, what did you mean by hose the L2 cache? Did you mean that it could damage the L2 cache?

Exactly another point is where the readings are coming from , we all know lower temps are better thats a given but again if your running in the mid 50's no lockup's and no crashes ? I say keep on trucking

Hey Funky,
I will say for your FSB & Voltage plus looking at you cooler your temps are about right. Do you really need to have your CPU at 1.74 to keep it stable. The voltage is really what is making your CPU heat up. Don't forget running that high FSB will also make your northbridge get pretty warm too, and where does that sit?

I'm sitting around 45-46C idle, and 50.4C full load. Frankly prior to my replacing my Heatsinks fan (from a stock AMD 60mm to a vantec tornado 84.1cfm 80mm) my temps were up in the HIGH 60's. I ran that way for several weeks with absolutely no hangups or crashes, or any problems whatsoever.
This is using stock heatsink and only with a different fan. The Room temperature is about 29C (or 84F for those of us in the states).
As mentioned above, keep on trucking
Edit:
Sorry....saw this topic late!

my p4 is running at around 30c ,its a p4c overclocked from 2.6 to 2.8 with
high temp of around 37c (ive only mesured it with the bios temp test after reboot)
ive got an aluminium case ,its makes a lot of difference what case you have and how much crap youve got in it ( air flow )
my old AMD system used to hit at 50c sometimes. i only noticed that my temps were too high because
of reading other peoples temps earlier on this year on DH.

My cpu have been up 70C and it lived.... I can make my cpu-fan go 2000-3500 R/min and the temp can go op to 70C when i play games and the fan is on 2000 R/min...
If i have it on 3000 my temp is on 50..
I am going to get a new chassi after the 24th....
