Vid card buying help

Ok my current system specs are

XP 2400+ @ 2100 (12*175)
Asus A7NX X
512 ddr pc2700
GeForce4 Ti4200 128mb

The Cards I have to choose from are FX5600 9500np 128 (red pcb L shapped memory) or BBA 9600pro

what would be my best bet for game performance?

ps thank you in advanced every part in my rig i have gotten because of dh forum advice

I would go with a 9600 Pro. Stock for stock better performance than the other 2 choices. Fo rjust a few more you could even consider the 9600 Pro XT.

I agree completely with todds - go with the 9600pro - if you can manage it - shell out that little bit extra and grab yourself a 9600XT (worth the extra)

from what has been seen on these forums id get the 9500np and softmod it.(thats if you can find one) there like gold dust.

if not the 9600pro are decent mid range cards with full dx9 support.(preferably this one)

i have tried the 5600 256mb before and thought they are shite for a mid range card.dx9 support(via software more than card itself)from 5600 i'd stick with what you have now.

Yes the 9500 np are awesome cards. The only reason I did not recommend it is b/c of availability and they have a shorter life span. That though is to be somewhat expected.

I can vouch for that

I have enjoyed my Sapphire 9500 np as much as any card I have seen to date. It may not have the horsepower straight out of the box, but they sure as hell have a bunch tucked away just waiting to be discovered

ok the 9500np (guaranteed moddable) is $221.00 + s&h CAD and the 9600p $230 CAD between these best bang for buck?

whatever you do, do not get a 5600. Your Ti does better than that thing.

with your choices, get the 9500, but correct me if Im wrong, I may be getting all these cards mixed up...... because i think i saw that they have a really fast core clk, i forget what exactly, but faster than the midrange cards coming out now. i.e. the 5600s, new 5700s and the new 9600s.

Since it seems you want to buy a mid-range card, I would recommend the GeForce FX 5700 Ultra. The price is going to be

$199 and I've read many good reviews. At Extremetech.com, they have named the FX 5700 Ultra the best mid-range

card for your money. Although the FX 5600 Ultra is a real POS, the FX 5700 Ultra is different with actual architectural

improvements, speed increases, and better cooling.

If I had to buy a mid-range card, I would get the 5700 ultra. Also, you can't forget nVIDIA's awesome drivers that offer

better stability than ATi drivers and greater compatibility with applications and games.

If you can afford to spend more money, I would recommend the ATI 9800 Pro 128MB version. The 9800XT is overpriced

with a minimal increase in core and memory clock speed. If not the 9800 Pro, then the 9700 Pro. Although it's more than

a year old, it's still a very strong contender beating even all the nVIDIA FX cards except the high-end ones.
