What exactly is the advantage to running your AGP/PCI bus OC'ed?

that said if you are not able to keep the PCI on 33mhz, which also includes the clock for 7/16mhz ISA devices jup they are still in there!
I think your asking for (HDd) trouble.

the IDE controllers tend to be one of the first to give out at higher pci overclocks... NIC's generally are the first of firsts..... it's sometimes hard to find one... of course...it appears that onboard NI's seem to be not nearly effected.... I'm not to sure about ISA's though... i would think they tend to be more solid.. or the oposite.... my creative sound card really really hated overclocking the pci.... 33mhz....34....35>CRASH

i'm not sure if you'll get much more out of your video card or other pci devices if you overclock the bus they run on...... if there is, i'm guess very little.... AGP 8x being that it's already providing a pile of bandwidth.....

I dunno about PCI, but I heard that AGPs are already too fast for current cards

I recommend that you don't change the AGP/PCI setting above default spec. I once did and I experienced all kinds of

nastiness. From audio sounds getting garbled to hard drives making weird noises. I immediately restored the setting

to 66/33; in fact, I hard-locked it to that state as I've read that some mobos will dynamically change it up and down on

their own.

On my ABIT BE6-II board, there was no way to lock the AGP/PCI timing. So, that held me back from overclocking the system as much as I thought it could go.

With my ABIT BD7 board, I can lock the AGP/PCI timing and it does seem to work better for me.

hmm....i'm running mine at 40/80 for 2 months now, no problems though (gaming, working...). on thing to note though, i do not have any PCI devices plugged in....

What's the deal with the Abit NF7? I know you can adjust the AGP bus speed, but does anyone know if the PCI bus is always locked or what? I always assumed it was-

Yeah, the Abit NF7 is an AMD board- I was wondering about that board specifically.

Guess you're lucky. Once when i forgot to lock the AGP/PCi setting and overclocked the FSb to 158 from 133, my computer went nuts. Audio would skip and stutter and my computer felt like it was about to crash.

I do know, however, that running your AGP/PCi that fast will shorten[edit] the lifespan of your mobo.

I once had a VWbuggy, which I equipped with an porsche engine,
result: a very fast buggy for 4 months, then it began to "feel" funny, so I checked it out
and all connections from the suspension to the car-frame where seperating themselfs

.....it just wasend build for those speeds.

That is what happens if you run things @ speeds it is not build for, be prepared for a short livespan.
So always keep that in mind if you have been OC'ing, if your blaming someone.. blame yourself

.... like hawk said...... it will work...work..work..... then finally break down..... and in your case...it just might break down to the point that even if you defaulted to stock...or even went as far as to go well below.... it still might not work again......
