barton 2800 and sapphire 9700np escapades
OH YEAH!!! lol
I've been having a little bit of fun with my new rig (click on sig for specs)
So - the barton 2800 is now a barton 3200 @ 2.2GHz (200x11) - I don't feel like pushing it yet
and my 9700np from 275/270 - all the way to 368/309 - YEAH!!! OC of 93MHz on the core! I think it could go even farther if only pstrip would let me take it above 368!!!
This is all with stock cooling for the 9700np
The graphics card OC has taken my 3dmark 2003 score from 4379 all the way up to 5369!!!
an increase of 990 points - w00t!
my OC of the barton took me from 14k 3dmark 01se up to 15k 3dmark 01se
I'm gonna try pushing the CPU some more soon enough

Wow, thats f*cking incredible!
Mr 9700pro only hits ~360 with the shim removed and ceramique.

kool
what kind of 3dmark 03 score do you get with that?
You do have much better mem and a more oced cpu - reason I ask is - I bumped up my processor to 2.6GHz (200x13) to see what benefit it would have over a 2.2 in 3dmark03 and I only gained about 20 points!!!!!!!
The RAM won't help - but I think my GPU is the bottleneck for once!

2.6 is perfectly stable - so long as I get to it through 200fsb - if I try having a larger fsb + lower multiplier it won't work at that speed.
It won't boot at 2.8 - and it is touchy at 2.7 - will go for about 1-2 hours - then crashes.
But - 2.6 is stable for a good period of time - I just don't like running it quite that fast - so - I lower it to 2.2 - which is more than enough for me atm - when I start to lag in games - then I will up the frequency again.
2.2GHz is 42^C Idle and 45-46^C load
2.4GHz is 44^C Idle and 47-49^C load
2.6GHz is 49^C Idle and 54-59^C load
2.7GHz is 53^C Idle and 64-69^C load
I don't like going above 50^C - so I keep it quite a bit below at 2.2GHz - which - like I said is more than enough atm
I'm using a Coolermaster Aero 7+ (copper) at maximum RPM for those temps aswell as a Thermaltake Xaser 3 V1000D with all 7 fans at max RPM
still nice a quiet though

hmm, interesting
I have the FSB at 221MHz right now, at 200MHz I might be able to do 2.6? I'll go try right now

yeah - try it out - the bartons were no where near their limit when AMD discontinued them
let me know how you get on
I did run 3dmark 01se @ 2.6GHz and just broke the 18k barrier
let me know!!!

I just did ~18500 in 01.
01 is a much better full system test than 03 is. You will notice proc changes more in it.

OMFG!!!
I'm over 5.5k in 3dmark 03
I've managed to push the 9700np up to a stable 370MHz core - 95MHz above stock!!!
and the memory is up to 328MHz (effective to 656)!!!!
5529 to be exact - http://service.futuremark.com/compare?2k3=1512495

Buddy 3dmark03 is basically a GPU test, no matter how much you overclock your processor you wont see more than 100 points gain.
As Craig said, 3dmark01 is a much better full system test.
BTW, I score 15k+ with 9500pro 360/300, and XP1700@2.43GHz
But that is a damn nice core on the 9700np! Jeez.

yeah - 370MHz on 9700np
That's close to 9800pro speeds!!!!!!!!!!
But then - the memory is a good oc at 328MHz - this is sapphire stock cooling - therefore - there are no ram sinks on the mem

bloody hell!
My score would be better if I could only use the cat 3.8s to overclock - I'm restricted - If I want to overclock this thing - I can only do it with omega drivers and pstrip

I will offer two alternatives to you my friend
1: Use Riva Tuner and the included R9x patch script and you can modify any set of Catalyst Drivers
2: Visit OCFAQ Softmod
