rolleyes "soyo" a dirty word?

i may be out of luck here as anyone able to answer this would probably need to know something about soyo mb's, but here it goes.

trying to overclock, and soyo's phoenix - award bios utility offers as many options as anyone, which is great if they work correctly. my problem is that the cpu frequency and dram clock speeds although "adjustable" seem to be tied together in some fashion which makes the options useless. the dram clock speed can be set to 100, 133, 166 or 200mhz. the cpu frequency (fsb) can be set anywhere from 100, 120, 133, 140, 150, 166, 200 mhz, or manually from 0 to 255mhz in 1 degree increments....great, but when i set the cpu to any of the options (except 200mhz) it locks the drams clock speed to "spd, or 166mhz", only when i set the cpu to 200mhz (which obviously won't work) does it open up all of the options for the dram clock speed. in effect i can get a cpu frequency of 200 (double pumped to 400) and a dram clock speed of 200mhz (double pumped to 400) which is way out of the league of this mb. i should be able to set the dram to 200 and the increase the cpu to what ever i want (as long as it doesn't exceed the rams frequency).

just wondering if there is an answer lurking some where, other than "buy another mb stupid a$$". my thinking is that all of the above options should be available all the time which would enable an effective overclock, i am on my 4th bios update and am wondering if it's possible that i corrupted the last installation somehow which affected access to the options?

it's a waste to try an contact soyo as they have never answered any of my emails over the 12 to 14 months i've had this board. any help would be greatly appreciated, even those who feel compelled to make fun of me/soyo!

I'm not sure what to tell you either but it sounds like its one of those idiot proof features and there might be a modded bios out for the board that lets you tweak all that no matter what, I would suggest checkking the www.amdmb.com forums and see what you can find, there really pretty helpful there

And you could always try lowering the multiplier on the CPU if its not an Unlocked CPU you can unlock it a few ways, www.ocinside.de has a good pin mod guide so you could just paint the cpu pins with some window defroster repair and unlock it that way or any other way you want

thanks for your response scobywhru, forgive my questioning i know very little about what i'm attempting to accomplish so please bear with me. luckily i got ahold of an unlocked rev b tb, the multipliers range from about 5 all the way to 20, but lowering the multiplier (currently 166x15@1.8v) will not enable me to use the 200mhz option on the cpu, because that will give me a 400mhz fsb (200 double pumped) which this board will not handle.

what i'm trying to accomplish is to set the dram clock speed at 400 (200 double pumped, which this board is suppose to support) and then start off at 333fsb (166 double pumped cpu freg) and gradually increase the hz hopefully to 366.

again thanks for your help and the link to amdmb.com, i will check it out

BEFORE doing anything though backup anything you can't be without and by backup I mean off the HD and on another computer or CDs or whatever you can use to store it on

There isn't much point in screwing with the memory if it isn't locked to the FSB if you run it out of sync you don't end up with any more speed then if they were both set at the same sometimes even less and that KT400 doesn't fare well if the Memory and FSB aren't the same, what you should find out is what setting locks the memory to the FSB of the CPU and keep it set that way and then start to mess with the FSB and raise it until you can't get any more from it and keep a stable system, i am running on a 148mhz FSB for my CPU but I could raise to more but then the HD will get corrupt or I have to use the RAID controller that won't support my Optical drives, it has to do with the HD Controller and southbridge used for my board.

The way it is set on my board Gigabyte GA-7VRXP is I have to keep the memory set to 266mhz which is actually a 1/1 Division CPU FSB / Memory FSB but I don't know the nuances for that board so you would probably need to go somewhere else to get that info hence that AMDMB Forums they are about the best place to get this kind of info.

what's up scobywhru, luckily there is nothing on this computer which means anything to me, i have an hp9694c which i use for school and work and i don't mess with it too much.

ok so i 'm in the same boat as you then, in locking the mem to the cpu which is 166 on my board, i can increase the fsb to only 170 before i begin to have problems. one last question then, do you know a source that i can use to gain some insight on how multipliers work? oh and by the way, thanks for leading me to amdmb.com, great site and a ton of inf

I would just suggest asking on the AMDMB Forum, other then that I don't really know of any other good source without searching online for a long while, but look on the AMDMB Forum for modded BIOS maybe one of those will give you complete control over all the multipliers
