My Geforce 4 ti4200 overclock

I just got my video card up to 310 / 580 with stock cooling. I have to case fans blowing on it though, so I guess it's kind of like cheating... but hey, all's fair in overclocking right? ;p I don't know what anyone else is getting but it seems like a good one to me, almost 25% right? Anyway, 3dmark01SE score of 12158 at that speed with 45.20 beta det's.

That's a good overclock. Most Ti4200's have problems getting the core that high.

A good core overclock is 300MHz - that's the stock core speed of a 4600. Ideally, that's what you want to aim for 300/650 of a 4600 card.

It's the speeds of a Ti4600 but will not perform like a Ti4600 cuz they both use different GPUs

i am pretty sure that gpu core is exactly the same on all 3 cards. the only difference is speed binning.

Yep, the exact same core. if you manage to push one to 300/650 it will be exactly as fast as a ti4600.

that were my impression to.but that is good going getting a ti4200 to ti4600 speeds.will need that extra cooling.

i think i would change that heatsink to one much better than stock if he hasn't already.

{edit}just seen his post he hasn't changed heatsink

That's a good overclock. On my old Ti-4200, I had reached 320/620 on stock cooling. However, I didn't feel too safe so I set it down to 290/600. If you want to maintain that speed, I would recommend replacing the GPU fan with something more powerful or do a GPU fan mod using a CPU fan.

I was thinking of that. Optimummind, I've got a stock 2500+ Barton fan lying here... I was wondering it I could cut down some of the fins on the 2500+ heatsink, then bolt that thing on there? That's a lot of weight though.

Here is a link where someone installed a CPU HSF on the GPU core.

http://www.rainwulf.com/article_radeon_mod.html

The card he used was a 9700 Pro but the concepts will still apply to nVIDIA GPUs. You just have to be careful but the dimensions. For me, this is too much trouble to do.

It is a good overclock but the scores low for what he's got...

I used to get about 12,560 STOCK with a very simular config!!!! and with the same card!
