exclamation Insane Idea!!!!

I have a great but totally insane idea!!!!

What would keep me from doing this....
1.Buying say a new radeon 9200
2.finding a say 9500 pro of faster card (anything with faster ram) thats gpu has been killed...with good memory
3. removeing the memory from the 9500 pro/9200 pro
4. putting the memory from the 9500 pro on the board
5. editing the bios timeings/multiplyers etc...
6. overclocking the gpu a little...

7. End up with a fast arse card for the money!!!!!!!!!!!!

does any see any reason this would not work??? long as the ram is the same packageing etc... I have acess to all the tools i could ever need for this...

I have no idea if this would work...it would be dangerous and scary the first time you put it in a mobo - but it would be a damn interesting project to follow (and may just be eligible for the ATI modding competition were running!!!)

Emmm, am I missing something here, couldn't you cut that down a few steps by just switching the gpu's over rather than all the memory chips??? Cool idea though!

gpu's have way to many pins with out an exact machine fitted for putiing on the gpu's,
PGA chip are a pain in the arse with just a hunderd pins let alone seveal 100 or pins, the heat would have to be even to keep for warping the boards yikes, would need a super size "met cal".... then you have bios issues etc.... pins matxhing up arrrrrgggg

the ram is more generic and should be compatable long as the voltage is close...
i wana get more feed back before i try anything... std ram ram looks easy .. bga a little harder but not to bad...becouse i could use a "met cal" machine.

sounds pretty kick ass i dont a really dont see where there would be a problem because ram is not specaily designed for each Video at least not that know of.

LOL...OK...point taken...I wonder why no-one has thought of making sockets for GPU's like on mobo's so you could just upgrade the chip itself???

That mean that Nvidia and ATi would have to charge less money....and plus for the more i think that there are to many major defferences in video cards to make it work right and make it worth the effor and the money.

You shouldn't have to search long if you try eBay.
