Barton 2500+ & A7n8X-Deluxe Temps

1. I'm having a problem with understanding the temperature readings i'm getting from the cpu diode and the motherboard socket temp.
my system is currently overclocked to 3200+ and the socket temp is 33c and the diode is reading 64c, before I overclocked it, the temperatures were only 5 degrees cooler, and I can't work out why there is such a large discrepancy, the heatsink is attached right, downlocking it only lowers the diodes temperature by about 5 degrees, so i'm thinking that the cpu diode may be a bit naff

Which temp should I go for???? Plz Help.

2. I don't know whether i'm luck or not but my Barton is multiplier unlocked from the retail box with the A7n8x, does the motherboard unlock this or am I just lucky in this respect.

Any answers appreciated.

The rule of thumb is the diode temperature is more accurate. However, the next rule of thumb says you assume that your CPU is running at the higher of the two temperatures. What heatsink & fan are you using? All Barton CPUs are unlocked to begin with.

System Specs

Lets start with three questions.

1. What rev board do you have?

2. What are you using to monitor your temps?

3. What bios version are you using?

@necrosis

1. The board is revision 2

2. I'm using motherboard monitor

3. Bios revision 1006, latest from asus ftp

The diode temperatures are now at about 54 c and socket temp 40 c running at 2ghz i'm now using a coolermaster aero 7+ thingy, can't remember exact name, but I managed to get it for £15.00.

The diode temperature seems to only shift a few degrees from standard speed and the socket speed seems to be the same differance too. its pretty stable, I had run prime95 for 4hrs with no errors reaching a top temp of 64c diode and about 45c on the socket. its just that the discrepancies are quite large, the heatsink is fitted right but I had to put a bit more thermal grease to get a good temp..

You should be getting much better temperatures with that CPU fan. My system runs with the same CPU (overclocked) and HSF and I'm topping out at 52 degC in a warm room. What thermal paste are you using with this HSF? How many case fans do you have installed? The Aero 7+ requires a decent amount of case circulation because it has the tendency to suck some of its exhaust air back in to it's intake. Have you tried running your system with the case open and a desk fan blowing directly into it?
