Dual Psu
I just got done installing a dual PSU mod to my rig.
First psu- 350 watt on board- Running:
-MB (CPU/RAM/HSF)
-9700p-
-80mm fan inside psu, and that's it.
Second PSU 300w - neatly velcro'd to the right side of case Running:
-(2) 92mm case fans,
-(3) 80mm blue led case fans,
-(2) black 80mm case fans- one of them part of a mod to convert first PSU from single fan psu to dual fan PSU,
-Fan attached to 9700pro,
-80mm fan inside the psu
-1 CDRW,
-2 HD's (40gig 7200rpm, 6gig 5400rpm for extra storage)
-1 floppy.
Combined max wattage load 650- Rails are stable as hell under any condition.
Seems logical to run accessories such as fans on a separate PSU than the one running video card and CPU. It was an easy and fun mod. Very simple to do- Even if your main PSU is powerful enough to run everything (including 12 case fans)- why not split the load up between 2 and make their jobs easier? My system seems snapier when I first turn it on- it "pops" right on and all the fans seem to run faster/ more consistant. I know my 9700p is getting cleaner/ more even power.
Anybody else running a Dual PSU settup?

Hey, I have 12 too. I also have 2 PSUs configured in basicly the same configuration. I have a bit more loaded onto my 2nd, but I have the same on the primary.

I'm really thinking into doing this, and SOON!!!!
Do you have a link for a tutorial, how did you do it? Did you also use a tutorial.
I currently have a Antec TruePower 430W, I want to attach a 300W (forget what brand) to it, to run fans and crap.
Thanks

I knew I should have been more careful- I blacked out the entire eastern seaboard today, there was no lightning, it was me- Sorry everyone.
My didgital camera crapped out- But I have another one (640 x 480) that I'm going to get some batteries in, and I'll try to get some pics. They won't be great, but I should be able to get a few.
Yeah, there was an article here on DH that someone was explaining how to do it, but I forgot where it was and I didn't bookmark it. It's very simple though, you just take the green wire on the main PSU (it is also marked as the remote-on on the label)- it is wire #14, - you splice that into the same one on the other PSU, just get an extension wire and splice it in-line- then hook ANY ground to ANY ground on the second PSU-
The hardest part is avoiding a rats nest of wires- And where to put the second psu. I got some velcro and stuck it to the side of my case and wrapped all the wiresso they aren't all loose hanging everywhere. You have to be carefull and make sure the second PSU is pluged on and turned on, I guess people have really messed things up by turning the main one on and not having the second PSU turned on.
I'll try to find that thread.

I was going to do that- but the thing puts out some heat- so I decided to keep it away from the indide of the case- But that would be a clean install.

I use ducting to send the air out the side of the case. (I run with the side panels off, not only does it look cooler, but it is cooler)

Oh yeah, that would work- I like my "Frankenstein" looking case with the extra PSU hanging off the side- People don't know what to think.

my friend is actually asking me to do something like that so his CD roms won't power down when his system does sohe can get his CDs out when he needs them, if I end updoing it Imight make a write up on it if any one is interested probably put a 5 min delay on 2nd PSU so it won't hog alot of juice
