Well, if your FSB is at the max, then you can only raise the multiplier, right?

Forget about it man, stick with that. You can probably reach 210 or something like that... not a big thing. BTW, why are u so worried about? =-O

sorry... didnt think to look at your sig... anyway yea i would keep your fsb the same... since the ram is built to go that fast it shouldn't burn out and is thus safe. So just mess with the multiplyer. Also... are you sure your fsb is 400 MHz and not 200? You need to make sure that you have set that in your bios...

He did say 200mHz..... max in BIOS... meaning BIOS can't handle above 200mHz FSB

1. All i kno is, that when i change it too User Defined i goes up 1 MHZ at a tyme, 201, 202, 203... got it?

2. Can some one please explain to me how this all works, with the FSB and how it effects the ram... i refuse to give up... and dont redirect me to some guide to read...

3. why is it that just changing the MP doesnt have a great effect on the machine?

The FSB increases the speed of everything in the system while the multiplier will only increase the CPU speed.

i c, so increasing the FSB means less stabilty and hotter temps?, see i l00k at ur sig Craig and u have 138FSB, now how come u jsut dont run the beast at 200*11.0 ?

I have so many problems with this POS mobo. This it the only multiplier it boots to (17X) I needed to do so much work, and modify the mobo to make this chip finnaly work. You can see my "I love this chip" thread for more information about its problems.

yes i know but there is an option in the cmos called "CPU FSB/DRAM ratio" and THAT is where you choose at which fsb the ram will be working at... there are 15 choices to choose from ( at least on my board) and i will list them as if the fsb is 200 MHz 3/3 (400 MHz) 3/4 (533) 3/5 (666) 3/6 (800 i think...) and so on up to 6/6 ( 400 MHz)... now... if you havent chosen one of these then odds are that your fsb is only 200 MHz right now... not to good. but if you make the CPU FSB/DRAM ratio 3/3 or 4/4 or 5/5 or 6/6 then your EXTERNAL CLOCK will be 200 MHz and your FSB will be 400 MHz... so don't forget to play with those ratios.

Oh craig, wake up for reality. You still say this mobo does not support tbred-b? .... well, sorry, but no matter what mod u do, you will never reach 200fsb.

Ive never seen this "CPU FSB/DRAM ratio" option, im gonna l00k now... my question is... my ram is 400MHZ ram (Pc-3200), so would i set the ratio at 6/6???

Yes! I need to modify jumpers to change the voltage and It will only boot at 17x. (the other multis don't boot it) Support should constitute complete functionality within stock specifications.

i havent been able to find this "CPU FSB/DRAM ratio" option guess my MOBO just doesnt support it???, i realy cant push her much harder anyways i had her at 200*11.5 and she was jsut running way to hot, 47-48C IDLE! @ 2300MHZ, u kno for a volcan0 11+ im REALY disapointed, i thought i would see better results then this, i guess i just dont have it installed great... When u put AS3 on ur chip are u sopposed to gack it on the side of the lil f0cker t00?, the edges.. I put a thin layer on the top plane like in the online directions but everytyme i see a photo of it i always see it on the edges t00... BAH....

Heres a pic of what im saying they use a Pent.. chip but w/e it sitll l00ks the same.. http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_s...structions.htm just scroll down till u see the shots... i'll try and find a link to the AS3 aplied with it on the edges, im just trying to clarify what im syaing...

i think they put ENTIRELY tomuch compound on that heatsink... and that was WAY more than enough compound on the cpu... i like using THIN layers on my stuff...

with out a dobt the higer multiplyer will give you more of a boost in 2001se than what little you fsb does...

got much higher scores @ 12X180 then 11X200 for some reason....

depnds on the chip you got and how well your cooling it!!! same goes for the chipset!!!

TuEKiD its not shown that way on the asus boards a7n8x series boards.. you can manually set the mhz of your agp...its kinda wired

DONT APPLY AS3 LIKE THAT !!!! THATS SOOOO WRONG !!!

TRY THIS

Buy a shim for your proc (like 5bucks at newegg)I did and it made my temps 2 degrees cooler and it evened out the pressure on the chip. I prefer nanotherm pcm+ but neweeg doesnt sell it but I've heard good things about arctic silver ceramique compound.

ceramique is apparently just as good as as3... anyway TuEKid... you will really be happyif you re-do it... it needs to be redone... you will watch your temps drop dramatically. Especially if you leave your comp on for 3 days in a row like i did... you can restart though. But if you leave it on for 3 days then the compound hardens i think isnt it? Anyway my temps are like 10 degrees lower because i did that...

Shims are bad, they increase your temps. Never use a shim.

totally agree

they raise yout temps.. ruduce your airflow... and often are slightly 2 thick resucting in poorer contact of hsf with cpu core ...

pros...

you dont damage the chip! but if you intall your hsf the right way that shouldnt be an issue
