Well I don't wanna to take of my heatsink from the processor right now but I can though give you som more details.
It's an AMD Thunderbird XP 2100+ on an Abit NF7 rev. 1.0 with a Volcano 9 CPU fan/heatsink.
Along with 2*256mb TwinMOS PC3200 memory sticks.
The question is...how much should I be able to overclock my processor?? I don't wanna have it hotter than 55 degres of full work.

Yup...I've tried to clock it to 200*10, although the temp went to about 50 degres work. I did this on the night, since my room gets about 30 degres warm in the summer.

You'll have an extremely hard time hitting 2ghz unless the CPU is unlocked or you are running an nForce2 board. Aside from that it'll be really hot. My old 2100 Palamino on a Volcano 9 cooler ran in the high 40s idle and peaked around 53C under load.

Well the cpu IS unlocked and I DO have a nforce2 mobo. And I DID run it just fine in 2 ghz, just that the working temp went to about 55 degres.
The idle temp now on my Palomino +2100 @ 1.8ghz (+2200) is 38 degrees.

Thats not bad considering my chip's idle temp is 40C and its not as fast as yours and its watercooled.

hmm wierd hehe. Well I've got 2 fans in the back sucking out the air about 5 centimeters from the processor. And that did some how lower the temperature, on the CPU as well as the chassi.

Man, how did everyone got their 2100+ so cool?
I've also got one, a palamino core and at this moment it's running at 58,5 degrees and i am doing nothing on my PC.
System temp is even higher it's 68 degrees. CPU Fan is an Arctic Cooling.
My mobo is an AOpen AK 77 Pro Bios version 1.20 (latest on the site).
I was thinking of replacing my CPU by an 2400+. Is it worth it or not?
*EDIT*
I also have 2 little fans right next to the CPU and Vidcard. Imagine when they are not there how high my temp then would be

Well first when I got my Abit NF7 rev. 1.0 board the temp. meter was misscalculating the CPU temp to about 55 degres IDLE. But after som updates of the BIOS they've fixed the high temp readings.
And the fan that I bought first was a GlobalWin CPU fan, which really had a suckheatsink. (the fan is now working as a chassifan )
Then i ordered a Volcano 9 fan and heatsink and but on some thermal grease, which ever since have got my CPU to get cool.
So now in the summertimes, I've got an Idle temp of 40 degres. But in the winter, when my room by the way gets bloody COLD, it can drop down below 35 degres.
(All temps are in celsius)
You should also check which temp. meter you're reading from. Some processors got termometers inside the CPU which gets above 60. My readings are from the bottom off the CPU.

Well i hope they give the correct Temp. setting cause this is their 8th or 9th bios update.
So your saying those Volcano9 fan does it's job very well?
Man below 35 degrees, only time i get that is when i open my windows in the winter and turn my room fan on
In winter time it runs idle at a temp of 46 degrees and stressed it's highest peak is then 56 degrees.
Now Idle it already is 12,5 degrees warmer.
Ah well......
But to be honest i don't have a clue from which temp. meter i'm reading from, dunno if it's inside the CPU or at the bottom

Before my Chaintech crapped out, I had a TBv8 2100+ o/c'd @ 16x133x1.60 (XP 2400+.) It was running fine @ 55c (using the Chaintech CBox temp gauge, which is correctly done from the bottom of the processor,) Then before the motherboard crapped out, I put the clocks back to standard clocks and rechecked the temps, (since I also changed from stock cooler to an AERO 7+) and my temps went to between 38-40c in the evening just raising slightly to 43c in middays during the summer days here in the S.E. U.S. I have an air conditioned room which stays at aprox. 74F year round. The computer itself sits atop one of the air conditioner ducts on a tray from my table. (It's raised off the duct about 3/4" and air flows well from the vent.) With the case closed, at full loads it was only running at 42c on the processor. The board temp stayed at 28-34c year round, depending on if the case was open or closed. For some reason, it stays a couple degrees warmer with the case closed. I have a total of 7 fans, including the processor fan. The one inside of the power supply, the one on top of my case, two in front and two in the rear. The two on the rear are the only ones that blow air out. All but the Aero 7+ are 80mm fans. Well it is as well, but it's not a "normal" fan, it's a blower type fan.

Agreed... the palomino is not a very good chooice of cpu in these days.
With my 2200+ I could even reach 2.6~2.9GHz if I make a voltage mod on my mobo... but I'm not that indiana jones, so I just stick with 2.2Ghz...
There are some 1700+ and 2100+ tbred-b which are the best overclockers.

This link had a great info, but it's currently down. You could search it at google to see if there's on cache.

So the best thing to do is upgrade to a Tbred core? The max i can install is an 2600+ 266 fsb.
Unfortunatly i can't find any in the local computer store's. They do have the 2400+ CPU.
But i was going to upgrade to an Athlon64 when it comes out, but the temp. of my 2100+ is giving me more and more problems. My systems sometimes hangs when i'm intens gaming, and that's why i wanna know if it's worth buying a 2400+ till an Athlon64 will come out, or just wait till the Athlon64 comes out.

My mobo can't support Tbred-Bs. I have a very special Tbred-B that I want to put in it (2100+ AIUHB 1.5V) but the mobo doesn't support it.

Why not just get a XP2500? Or am I misunderstanding you, your mobo doesnt support higher than 2400?
If thats the case get a XP1700 tbred-b JIUHB DLT3C 0310 from excaliberpc.com
Best AMD overclocker. If ya ask anybody : )

@ Brazilian:
I was thinking about buying an Athlon64, so i think i stick with this 2100+ till i got enough money to buy an Athlon64. I was thinking more in the direction of a Hammercore, with 1 MB Cache. It's pricy but hey, i want to do it right the first way.
*EDIT* Hmm part of my post wasn't apllied, well this also should have been here *EDIT*
But i was wondering if it would be worth it to upgrade to a 2400+ for 2 - 3 months or so. I know the Athlon64 is coming rapidly, but it's no fun gaming when your rig produces an overall 10 degrees temp. in your room. When it's off temp in my room is about 33 Degrees, when i power on my PC it will rise to somewhere between 40 and 46 degrees and i tell you it's no fun.
@Tek:
If your referring to me, yeah the 2400+ is the highest CPU i can put on it.
But the 2500+ is Barton Core i thought, my mobo only goes to the Tbred core's.
But your right the 1700+ Tbred-B is indeed a good overclocker, friend of mine has one and it works like a charm, it outruns my 2100+ easy

In your case, unless you feel like wasting your money on a new processor, I would back the o/c off of the board you have and wait until the new 64 Bit boards/Processors are released. Otherwise get an AMD XP2100+ TBv8, which are in abundance now, and use it. I got mine from www.newegg.com.

blah
a 2400+ would be a waste of money in my opinion.
Stick with yours and wait for the 1mb cache.
Like you said, it won't take too much time to arrive those nice optimised 64-bits hammercore chips.

I had my XP2100+ TBv8 o/c'd to XP2400+, using stock cooling (load 55c/no load 52c,) I was using Artic Siver III paste and it was set at 133x16x1.65 (FSBx2/multiplier/voltage.) It run stable for about three weeks, until I clocked it back to XP2100+ (133x13x1.65.) Because I wanted to run it unclocked, I just overclocked it to see if I could.
This was done on both an ASUS and a Chaintech motherboard.

I would see about sending that motherboard back for the replacement the v2 board is the updated board that gets rid of the faulty parts that they used on the ones prior to it. They did a recall on those boards for those who have problems with them. Do a google search for ABIT and faulty components.

ArchAngelRay ,
WTF??? why did u go back man?
Running a 2100+ at stock speed it's a waste of speed :-)
There are some amazing stepping codes for 2100+ (just like some 1.5v 1700+) which can run high as 2.9GHz with voltage mods....!!!
55º @ full load it's pretty ok though, not that bad man.
