Slk-900 U Rocks

It actually lives up to all the reviews/hype I paired it with the Smart Fan 2 and some As Ceramique. What a difference over the stock fan as well as my trusty Volcano 7. Right now I'm sitting at 210X11 on my 2500 had to up the vcore to 1.8 to complete Prime 95's torture test . Temps are system 25c cpu 35c idle, 26c/41c load (folding) and 29c/45c stress (folding and prime). Under stress with the stock hsf I'd hit 58c, with the V7 56c.

This Corsair TwinX 2700LL is pretty amazing too I've actually got it sync'ed 3-3 with my fsb at 210 bios screen shows ddr 418 duel channel Timings are(8-3-3-2T) as low as I can get'em and still boot into windows, overall not bad timings concidering the rams oc'ed by 85mHz . Need to run Prime for 24 and loop memtest before I can say it's 100% stable but looking real good so far.

I also found out that an old amd k-6 cpu cooler fits and makes a real good hsf for the southbridge with just a little thermal tape.

I have had my SLK-900 for 2 months now and I LOVE it!! Everyone that sees my CPU temps is just in Jaw-droped mode ...... I push my XP 2500 to 12x and 190 FSB and the CPU under full load does not go above 95 F. Gotta love that...

Neon, how do you like your 800? My DFI LanParty NFII Ultra doesn't have holes in the PCB for mounting the 900, so I was thinking about getting the SLK-800...

i use SLK800, my bro has an SLK900U (bolt version)

both are very good w/ Artic Silver 3 and YS Tech 92mm 4 pin 63.4 cfm 39.5 dBa, dont know what YS Tech model i have on mine though

my old Volcano 6 CU was messed up and my temps went 51 idle 53 full load, went down to 41 idle 45 full load (T-Birds tend to be hot) (regular 1.4 T-Bird)

my bro gets 38-40c using 1900+@2000+ but he still has to remod his rig (sand it down etc...)

Edit: the SLK900 and SLK800 are very similar, just one has bolts on it (900U), the 900 is larger and can fit one more size fan than the 800, but the average/actual temps are only about 1-3c difference, they are both good using the Arctic Silver 3/Ceramique

nah im just talking about that one particular model "900A" (non bolt) version of the 900, the rest he has 900U, 800A, 7, 6+ etc...

my old mobo doesnt have the "bolt" capability and so i didnt go for the 900U, so i went for the next best thing 800A

Thanks Krazy, but that's the SLK-900u, I need the SLK-900 A, the non-bolt variety, I found one on newegg for 47 dollars, probably going to get that. Last night after a grueling 4 hours of gameplay my CPU was pushing 52C. I definitely need to get rid of this stock fan.

i would rather go for the slk800, i think the 900U was meant to be bolted considering it is heavy, the only difference is probably the extra fan size (92mm)

The advantage to the 900u is that it bolts down which is great for people like me who go to LAN parties. This way the HS is secured stably over the core. I have chiped a core in travel with a clip down HS before and I know several other people who have done the same. Bolting it down pulls the HS down evenly over the core where as the standard clip down only pulls from two areas and can allow the HS to rock. If you don't beleive me, push a little bit on your HS and you will see/feel it move. My 900U is ROCK SOLID over my core.

Being able to put a 92mm fan on the 900U is NOT an advantage...... all the tests and reviews done on this HS have proven that an 80mm fan cools MUCH better then the 92mm because more air is directed over the HS with the 80mm. Sure it is a horse a piece between the 800 & the 900 but I personally took the 900 because I could bolt it down for stability.
