overclocking vid card

i was wondering, if you overclock a vid card to stable settings with only stock cooling, say a fan and a heatsink, does it still shorten the life of the card?

Not always. They are designed to last years and years- It will be outdated before it "wears out" anyways. Just don't run it at it's absolute maximum speed all the time- I think 85% of max stable speed is safe, even 90% is very safe. 100% might cause some problems because of heat if not well cooled with ramsinks and good case ventilation.

I say- OC it.

System Specs

but dont shhot to high with stock cooling most are lacking ..... a new cooler and some ramsinks could run as much as $20-$30

but it worth it to get the overclock .... that you'll get with it
