AMD Unlocking

Just a curious question to humor myself, but did the Asus A7N8X Deluxe Rev 2.0 unlock my 2400xp or am I the lucky owner of an unlocked T-bred? The MB manual sez, "CPU Frequency Multiple, This field is available to unlocked processors only." Since I haven't modded the CPU, something is unlocked.

Guess that means I'm a lucky SOB with an unlocked chip 'cause I set it to 166x13.5 before settling on 180x12.5. , if I'm reading you right.

Everyone with an Nforce 2 board and a tbred/barton has an unlocked chip. They will automaticly unlock.

So I'm NOT a lucky SOB with an ulocked chip , the MB does it. That was the answer I was looking for. So why all the talk about chip mods, wire tricks and such? If nForce2 all unlock the CPU, shouldn't everyone just get one? There's more to this, me tinks...

The reason is that the Processors have been a lot longer then the NForce2 board.....most older board never unlocked chips for you therefore you had to do it....and theres is also newer board that dont auto unlock the processor either...so you are forced to "unlock" it.

Unlocking chips doesn't seem be advertised as a nForce2 selling point, at least not mainstream. Is there something shady going on? I'm new to the OC'ing thing, atleast as far the nForce2 chipset, so you'll have to pardon the questions. Just that there don't seem to be a lot of info about this whole CPU unlocking thing, except for places like this.

AMD doesn't want people buyng a batron 2500+ and unlocking it to get the same speed as the 3000+. Nvidia knows that people like overclocking so they build semi-secret features into their chips to enable better overclocking results.
