Ok, about Ocing my Raddy 9500 pro

I dled this pack that has a bunch of bios's(its on the futuremark forums). And well I have the Hynix memory on it, and i'm told to use the Warp 11 bios and this other one, which i can't remember. Is the Warp 11 a good idea? I have a Built by ATI one of the first batches that were made(the first PCB version).

check your memory, make sure it's the right one, flash the right bios, and use a software to tweak it...rage3d is good

As long as you have an old PCI video card handy in case something goes wrong it's pretty safe, you can always reflash your card if a flash goes bad by using a PCI card as your display card when your AGP card is in. (It saved me more than a couple of times.....very scary times... )

Heh, if you think thats scary, think of the first time I hot swapped a bios that had a bad flash on my mobo. I booted with a working bios and then removed it and put in the dead one. Then I flashed it from dos.

people on the Rage3d forum said 283 was to high for the memory is that true? I thought Hynix memory was able to OC higher than infineon? Also what tweaks do u recommend i turn on in Rage3d tweaker?

The brand doesn't matter, its the timings that matter. Is it 3.0, 3.3 or 3.6?

hynix 3.6, i heard people say they were able to get it past 320 and over 340? not going to try that I just want to know if it would be okay to clock it at around 290 on memory? and how high would i be able to go with core without many problems, like would 310 be good?

3.6 is the worst yoy can get. 3.6ns ram translates into a max of 278MHz
3.3= 303
3.0= 333
2.86 (only found on r9700pro cards) = 350
2.0 (only on high end r9800pro cards) = 500

The NS rating refers to how fast the ram can be accessed. You can convert NS to MHz though a simple forumula: 1000/(NS rating)=MHz. All cores are different, you can't quickly tell if one core is particularly good or bad on a videocard.

ok if my core is at 290 and my memory is at 279(only 9 over stock) would this be ok, i can already see an improvement in speed in games(very smooth). Might just leave it at this. but that sound thing is gettin annoying.

Try bringing the core to 325 (The core is a much better overclocker than the ram is) Then you will have the same speed core as the r9700pro has, but if your happy with how it is performing right now there is no need to overclock it more. You should only overclock if you need it to go faster or if your going for bragging rights.

I saw a powercolor with 2.0 ram. And to think they used to be one of the worst companies. The card comes stock overclocked and everything.

i just noticed i dont have the L-shaped ram layout, and my pc rebooted at 305 core for some reason. i noticed that when i installed Rage3d Tweak my smartgart tab disappeared, and when i did the bios flash it reinstalled the drivers automatically(and when thathappens it usually sets my AGP to 8X) i need to find a way to see if it put it at 8x instead of 4x(very stable).

If you haven't already, turn off fast writes.

My 9700pro has 2.8ns ram, but won't go over 317 anymore w/o artifacts. When I got it it would do 337 mem, even 342-344 w/ artifacts, but stable. I wonder why- good cooling- fan righ tnext to it in case. (no ram sinks- they are in the mail)

Nope, I ordered them monday morning at 4:30 AM and the haven't shipped yet!

I thought they would be on my card by now-- I guess I can't complain- I got a really good deal--

I got:

Double Sided Thermal Tape, Sekisui #5760 TCSETA............. $2.00 x 2 = $4.00
XL Gold Ramsink Memory Heatsinks, 4 Pack HSGRS...............$3.99 x2 = $7.98
Blue Extra-Large Anodized Aluminum Thumb CHTSABU..........$0.75 x2 = $1.50
Stainless Thumbscrews, Price Per Screw - CHTSS...................$0.25 x2 = $0.50
Ceramique Premium High-Density Thermal C TAASC27...........3.25 x1 = $3.25
Power Supply Y Splitter Cable, 6"............................................$0.9 9 x1 =$0.99

Freight: FedEx Ground $5.98
Tax: $0.00
TOTAL $24.20
Received (credit card authorization code): $24.20

These are the only upgrades I can afford these days.. But hey, it's something!

I'm also getting readdy to add a dual power supply setup which will get me 650 watts total- (clean power to 9700pro too

I'm going to lap my 9700p's heatsink again and attach it /w better system (namely screws instead of weak plastic pins so I can put the big 60 x 25 fan back on it. And put seramiq on there too. I already removed shim. The ram sinks should help too. If I can't upgrade MB soon I'm buying more ram to mach this pc2100 too - 256mb sux arse.

All should help out the card a little..
