Heatwaves and overclocking
The weather in the UK this week has been fantastic, which is of course good if you want to tan or to see nice ladies in various states of undress, but the only problem is its pretty crappy for overclocking. All my temps of course have risen so ive compensated by downclocking the rig a little, im playing it nice and safe and making sure everything runs cool.
I dont know how you guys who live in hotter climates all year can handle it.. I like heat for short periods of time, but its very tiring, and its also a good reason for watercooling, promethia or vapochill !

Yup...even here in the north of Sweden we have wonderful weather...it's now 5 in the afternoon and we have ¨26c in the shadow....i also have lessen my overclock...back to default voltage and 10.5X203=2137mhz...but that is still a pretty good overclock(300mhz) in my book.. so now i'm idling at 33C and under load it is 36-38C...not to bad..

ive taken my core voltage down from 1.85 to 1.7 and lowered the overclock from 222fsb to 215, sitting at around 2370mhz........ also lowered the 9800 pro overclock down to 400 core and 360 ram, just to help it stay a little cooler. still hitting around 19k with under 40c cpu temps so its good enough
Incidentally this thermaltake case is great, its keeping temps in the case at around the same as the room, good considering the amount of hardware ive inside it running hot.

being heaty all the year long can also be good , cause your overclocks will be 24/7 stable without changing them depending seasons..........sometimes, you'll just have to bear with it..............

Hi,
I lowered my voltage from 1.65V to 1.5V (<---standard ) and it is now
running in 10x200 this is enough for all games and other stuff for this summer,
also I will take a break with overclocking this summer.
The air temperature in the room, where my computer stand is about 26C, because it is under the roof and that a very bad time to overclock, so I will start overclocking in september/october or on cold days
Now I think we can simulate the people who live in hotter climates

Yeah, thanks to the last bios (17) for my abit my temps jumped up to 47 full load when they used to be 42..... But as far as overclocking I am not hindered.

The actual temps arent altered, its just the way the bios is reading them.

Yes, I know.. But since I got my Nf7 series back in January like every other bios has modified the temps. Well, not that many but I can think of at least three different times. I wish they would make up their minds for once.

The last few days have been really hot here in
southern Norway, near 30'C in the shadows.
My room has a temperature of 28'C right now,
but I still don't need to "downclock my overclock".
The temperatures:
System: 34'C
CPU: 61'C
PWM: 41'C
The system is 100% stable...
Running 2.6C @ 250 FSB (3250 MHz).

Yeah, when I got mine, it was reading the temps a good 15c higher than the epox I had previously, then with the last bios, they dropped 15c........ its a bit of a mess.

I think this is a little bit hot, don't you think so ?
I believe you that it is stable, but I think 61'C for your CPU is too much, because 61C is not good for the health of your CPU on long time.

Yeah Cold Generation you should check that, 61C for a CPU is WAY too hot.
Me are fine right now.
XP1700(166x11@1.5V) 35C-37C Idle, 39C-41C Full Load.
ATI 9500 PRO no overclocks, not yet... waiting till I get new RAM and a cooler for the card.

I HATE SUMMER!!! Give me winter any day! We're in the dog-days of summer here and the house is always nice and chilly in the morning but by 1:00pm gets to about 80f. I prefer it around 70, we try and keep it about 74 in the summer....I can't WAIT for the fall!

I live in Canada... its winter 8 months of the year.
Though yeah my temps have gone up too. Aside from my heatsink plug srached... I'm sitting at 51º CPU and 28º in the case.

Hmm, I really can't see the danger here... If the CPU is going to lose 1 or 2 months
just because I overclock it, so be it. It will probably not last more than two or three
years anyway...
Besides, the P4's are spec'ed to at least 70'C...
But I was hoping to avoid the 60's though.
It's just this extreme heat.

You may find this funny......
But I have the opposite problem..lol. The central air in my house has no problem keeping it 68 degrees in here no matter how hot it is outside. My problem comes in the winter when the heat is turned on. Processor runs 3-5C hotter in during the winter months than it does in the summer. And don't think your alone with the Abit boards and the inaccurate temp readings. I have a brand new Gigabyte GA-7NNXP and it suffers the same issue. Says processor temp is 53C and removing the waterblock and checking the top and bottom of the core says 39C with Vcore at 1.91V, funny that is almost the same 15 degrees as the Abit board eh? 9700 Pro is water cooled also, but I only run it at 360/340.

Yesterday my computer chrashed, because it was too hot, the CPU had only 48 degree, but the motherboard had 40 degree, that was too much for it, I think the northbridge was too hot, so I decided to downgrade it to 9x166 with 1,3V and lowered the voltage from the motherboard to 1,4V, and now I have 36 degree for the motherboard and 39degree under load for the CPU ! Yes, and that with 30 degree inside the room ! Outside it was 36 degree yesterday !

Room Temperature: 35-40*C
System Temperature: 48*C
CPU Temperature: 48*C
We havent gotten an air conditioner but I do know that this 2200+ will do near 2600+ in the fall and wintertime once its cooled off a bit.

Wow, where do you live ? 35-40 degree room temperature ?
And your system is stable, with 48C ? I can't belive it!
If my system has 40C the southbridge is getting too hot
and the system will chrash.

lol ... my cpu overclocked from 2500+ 1.83 11x166 1.65v to 3200+ 2200mhz 11x200 1.75v resulted in just 3-4C extra heat
i have something called airondentining i kep it a a cool 72F in here
i would of went higer but the nonactive cooling on the northbrige is unsuffecnt .... when i get my thermal orb i'll o higher
all air cooled
