Top STABLE oc speeds with stock cooling. 9700P
What is the top STABLE oc speeds you can get with stock cooling. Stable meaning A: No artifacts and B: It won't destroy my gpu. Thanks.
Oh yea this is for a Radeon 9700 Pro with the Omega 3.4 drivers.

well not sure about the 9700 Pro ... but my 9500 non pro (has the L shaped memory, and 3ns memory) and mine hits 352/310 to 384/335 ... that is the range that I have in the overclocking arena. Hope that is of some help.

wyre, just asking a stupid question-------> can you mod your 9500non-pro to 9800pro?? i mean like 9500non-pro (red PCB version) -------mod it to-----> 9700pro (and you've sucessfully done this) ------and mod it again to-------> Radeon 9800pro?? i think you can reach that stage......is it possible???

the memory would never stand up to that.... you can get close to 9700 Pro performance... and maybe a tad over that ... but I could never reach Radeon 9800 Pro speeds ... especially if the 9800 Pro is overclocked.

even if you dont Oc the clocks, you'll still get performance increase, right??

sorry, wolf, ok, i mean, your card can be considered as a 9700pro right?? so, can you sort of like use the 9800 hack to gain a bit more of juice out of your card??

The 9800 has a different core, you cant hack a 9700 core to a 9800 core. hyperz 2 and the enhanced pixel shaders etc. so simply raising core and memory speeds wont do that.
Wyre already has done wonders with that card and is surpassing a 9700 performance !

I've had my 9700pro as high as 411Core/369Mem when benching. I can push the core as high as 425Mhz but I started getting artefacts and my 3Dmark score actually dropped.

With stock cooling? That is insane. I had mine at 360mhz core and memory and I had artifacts out of the ass.

It's a Hercules 3D Prophet and comes with non-standard heatsink and Ram sinks and I think I bought a particularly good one .

With stock cooling my R9700pro only could reach 339/331, but my watercooling and ramsinks let me bring it to what it is down in my sig. Acctually I can bring it higher, but I have no need to. I brought I to 400 core and it ran with very few artifacts, and I brought it to 366 ram and had no artifacts, after 366 on the ram it didn't just get artifacts, it got them so bad anything I tried to play was completly currupted.

Got mine up to 360/335. Really haven't seen anything bad yet, so gonna keep uping it till it freezes, or reboots.

Thats correct, the rad9800 series is the only r350 chip based card right now.
the rad9700/9500 (Not rad9600) is based on the r300 chip
the rad9600 is based on the rv350 chip

It went 371/350 - black snow at 378/350- always stable though.
Now it is fine- All that stuff I wrote before was because it was so stinkin hot in here that day- I need some ram sinks!! It still won't hit 371/350 without artifacts- but it is stable at that speed- it never freezes, just shows a few artifacts after a while- Hmmm--

Stock me too!
Wow, this thread is intruiging. I've just been trying out a bit of O/C with my P4 system:
GIGABYTE 8INXP
INTEL P4 2.66 GHz
512 DDR 3200
SAPPHIRE RADEON 9700 Pro (Well that's what they say)
DUAL PSUs 350W
AUDIGY 2 PLATINUM
PCTV PRO
LUCENT Dial UP
My HDDs all have a dual fan set on them and Ive removed case sides plus cheated slightly by directing two fans at RADEON but no mods.
The system is stable at 2.815 so far. According to AIDA the GPU is 324 I'm trying to find an app to get accurate reading of 9700 when O/Cd
I am able to use BIOS or EasyTune (Well I'm new to this!) So using EasyTune.
Not tried 8AGP yet nor firing up second monitor. Thats when things will get a bit wobbly I suspect but so far all is quiet and earlier had the system running at 2.95 without any complaints for one hour.
More later when I get the hang of this....
