Hey everybody...
I have a slight probelm overclocking my PC. Others before me have succeeded, though they do don't with my configuration. Maybe you can help me find the resolution: My exact specs: Intel q6600 Stepping B3 4GB of OCZ DDR3 1600Mhz REAPER HPC CL7 (7-7-7-24) Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-EP45T-DS3R PSU: Chieftec 510W (I think :X) The problem is, I work in a computer store and our technician is a master of OC. The only problem is he think the BIOS needs an update, he's just not sure of which one to get. Can you help me finding the right version of BIOS? All the Voltages are set correctly by the menufacturer Etc....Even though, the PC won't OC. For those who need more info, the CPU does not support 1600Mhz FSB. he needs to be OC'd to that. Currently, the RAM works on 1200 under a small OC. HELP PLEASE... Thanks in advance

Re: can't manage to overclock
Sometimes that isn't the best policy, especially with new boards, as new beta bios updates sometimes cause more issues than they solve.
That said, the GA-EP45T-DS3R is a pretty mature board, but even then, it has a beta bios posted. GIGABYTE - Support&Download - Motherboard - BIOS - GA-EP45T-DS3R (rev. 1.0) So, it's up to you, the F3 bios is the latest "stable" bios, and there's a F4a "beta" bios. I would test both and see how things go. Also, the Q6600 is a 1066Mhz FSB (266Mhz x 9, 2400Mhz) chip, trying to set a 1600 (400*9), or 3600Mhz would be pushing your luck, try overclocking in 10Mhz FSB amounts (276Mhz, 286Mhz etc).

I don;t know if he's right, but a man who managed to bring a rig like mine to work on 4.0Ghz CPU speed, is a man who knows what he's doing ![]() Tommorow (Israel time) I will try the new Bios versions to see if it fixes the OC problem. As you said, my friend, sometimes the best BIOS version for OC is not the most recent, without regards to BETA or stable version... Thank anyway, if there is anyone who has a concrete answer, something that deals with experiance in this specific MB, that will be the best, although, any answer that might help is happily accepted

Re: can't manage to overclock
You shouldn't have to set your FSB to that speed to get your RAM working at 1600Mhz. I have a similar motherboard, a Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3P, and it has an option to set memory multipliers in the C.I.A2 section, so give that a go.
As for overclocking itself, the Q6600 was known as a decent chip for overclocking, but 1600FSB is generally hard to attain, but it isn't unheard of. As I said, try the memory multipliers, and OC the CPU separately.
