Smilie sempron 3000 vs OC'd Athlon ?

hi everyone.. been a little while since i last posted anything. It seems ever since i got my old skool quattro, my computing days have taken a bit of a 'back seat' .

anyway.. not spending much time or money on PC's much these days, however, I was given a free ASROCK K7VM2 rev 3.0, complete with an socket-A Athlon 2200XP. The chip has been Over clocked to an 2600XP by the previous owner. and runs almost perfectly (except on very hot days of the year )

Thing is i've now also been offered 'for free' a sempron 3000+. its 'socket-A' and so i am told will run on a 'rev-3.0' ASROCK K7M2 like mine.

My question is: What will be faster? sempron 3000 or my overclocked Athlon XP?

As i understand it, the sempron 3000 socket A is a 'Burton' chip.

so where as 'most' socket A sempron's are slower than there Athlon rivals, will the 3000 actually be faster? And also, how much overclocking headway do i have with the sempron 3000?

sleepy now..

lol

H3X4D3C1M4L will become famous soon enough

I believe the specs on that 3000+ were a 256K L2 cache, not a 512KB (but I might be wrong). A Barton was an AthlonXP that ran on a 333 or 400MHz FSB with a 512KB L2 cache.

I would say all things being equal with the L2 cache, the chip that runs at the higher clock speed will be faster. If that Sempron really does have 512KB of L2, try and overclock it, but it should be faster at stock if it does have the extra cache.
