P4 Overclocking Results/Tips/Tricks/Complaints

Ok kiddies, it's time to post up them overclocks and maybe we can give each other tips and pointers on how to push these processors a lil more

Use this format:

Clockspeed: 18 x 185 = 3330 MHz
Synchronized Memory with clock?: Yes
Mobo: ASUS P4PE/L 1005 BIOS
Memory: 1 x Crucial PC2700 333MHz 512 MB
CAS: 2.5
Vcore: 1.6 V (Actual 1.65~ V)
Vmem: 2.7 V
PCI/AGP: Locked @ default
Cooling: Thermaltake Spark 7 @ 4199~ RPM
Case Temps Idle/Load: 36 C/37 C
CPU Temps Idle/Load: 46 C/55 C

I think I can squeeze about 2 Mhz out of the FSB, but I can't touch 190 Mhz FSB. My memory is limiting me

Re: P4 Overclocking Results/Tips/Tricks/Complaints

here's mine (quite lousy if you ask me)

Clockspeed: 20 x 153= 3060 MHz(stock cooling)
Synchronized Memory with clock?: nope, asynchronized
Mobo: ASUS P4S8X-X/ 1002 BIOS
Memory:2 x APACER PC2100 382MHz 512 MB CL2
CAS: 3-3-4-6T
Vcore: 1.625 V
Vmem: 2.7 V
PCI/AGP: only God knows
Cooling: none
Case Temps Idle/Load: 29~32
CPU Temps Idle/Load: 42~58

any suggestions will do....

Try synchronizing the memory?

Give that a go, maybe you can squeeze more FSB out of that.

PC2100?

So that's at 266 MHz right? Hmm.. Maybe. But you can always try. A more kick ass Overclock could come from using better RAM, but seeing you have 1024 MB of PC2100, a change wouldn't be economically wise.

It is.

I personally see any overclock reaching or surpassing the top processor's "speed" an achievement. I felt so when I whooped a AMD 3000+ and 3.06 (NO HT) in Sandra Sisoftware benchies

but.think of it this way, people who have same spec as you can reach 3330, what 'bout those with 3.06 and XP 3000??

sorry, i mean no insult.

Yes. What if..

But I haven't heard of those O/Cs though. You know? That is why I posted this up, hoping to see what other crazy O/Cs there are. But yes, I've heard of some site taking a 3 Ghz "C" to 4 Ghz or something like that.

North Bridge Controller

It's that thing with the silver Heatsink on it. You can get it actively cooled by attaching a small fan to it. Read my thread on how I did my NBC cooling on this O/C section of DH.

I was too excited to formulate proper sentence structure.

It's actually black on the SIS series of ASUS boards.

It's that black heatsink for you. That Heatsink looks so dinky. Looks like the same type of heatsink used for my old CUV4X. Anyways, if you touch that and it gets pretty hot, try finding a small fan for it. It may yield results, it may not, but for me it did wonders.

Little ones.

Anything from a Pentium 1 fan to those little ones that you can find at many computer stores. They're known as 40mm fans. I personally used an old Pentium fan and glued the center of it onto the heatsink. Try searching Google for 40 mm fans. You'll find pics. I'm quite disappointed by how ASUS did not include one on their MoBos. Other companies like MSI and Gigabyte have that extra "needed" feature. And some of those 40 mm fans by Gigabyte or MSI have LEDs on them.

Not my board, but same idea. Putting a little fan on the Heatsink.

No Way to unlock unless..

You get an Engineering Sample. And usually only review sites get those.

Engineering Sample is..

Just a P4 chip without the multiplier locked. It's like how a "Beta" is to software, the Engineering Sample is the "beta" of the chip. (Or so I think) You'll never get your hands on one. Unless you've got some great "contacts"
