Going to overclock E2160 1.8 GHz Dualcore. Need help choosing MOBO!
Hello!
I have now E2160, actually my brother does. We need a Mobo for it that can OC it to AT LEAST 3 GHz. I have seen lots of articles of overcloking it to even 3.4 GHz and so on. Our current choice: ASUS P5N-E SLI due to articles I have seen.

Gigabyte P35-DS3L
Cheap as dirt and a very good clocker. Much better than a 650i board.

dont use a nvidia 6 series chipset for OCing, it will bring you to tears..
a 750i may work but i highly recommend a P35 board

Well the P5N-E SLI I had last year had no problem doing 525MHz which is higher than all three of the P965 P5B-Deluxes I had.

I don't know why, the P5N-E SLI was a good clocking board. I've heard the 750i is also pretty decent.

Especially true with quads, haven't had much experience 6 series boards and C2D's though.
I haven't heard of too many issues clocking up Duo's on 6 series boards, though with my experience on my old 680i... it'll never be truly stable.

Why would you even consider using a Nvidia chipset board if you're not going SLI?

How do you guys know which chipsets are newest and which are old and which are good etc? You can easily compare CPU lets say at tomshardware cpu charts but where can you find information on chipsets? What other chipset makers there are in addition to Intel & Nvidia?

all intel chips are generally better at OCing than any Nvidia chipset. except maybe the P9XX series.... theyre only better than the nforce 6 series

P965 Express Chipset is a golden chipset based board when it comes to overclocking Intel 45-nm C2D's,
it's just unless you already have the board i don't think anyone would buy the board new,
and any decision to buy a new Intel chipset based board at this time would be a P35/31, G35/33 as a starter.
i think, P35, in most cases, is still king when it comes to overclocking Intel 65-nm C2D's processors.

i have seen more than once the E2160 (but not sure which core stepping since this CPU has 3, which are L2, M0 and G0 stepping), and E2180 M0 as well, have very low FSB wall on some certain boards but not the others.
however, what i used to see that the boards did not have an integrated (onboard) graphic chip, as far as i remember.
and since you want a board with the graphic chip, and for an Intel chipset based board you don’t have much choice,
i suggest you check out top motherboard models of Asus G35 and Gigabyte G33 chipset based boards,
then just pick one you like best. Good luck.
