Unable to go over 2.85 GHz?!

Hello,

I have Q6600 G0 with Tuniq Tower and I have ASUS P5N-E SLI mobo. I have Micron D9GMH DDR2 800 MHz 4CL.

I managed to boot into windows with these settings

316.5 FSB
1.375V
2.08V
5-5-5-15 Sync mode

But whatever I am trying to do I am unable to get 2.9 GHz or 3.0 GHz. I tried also 3.125 GHz with no luck. I tried increasing voltages but no difference.

Okay.

I got it working at 319.5*9=2875.5 MHz but I want to exceed 3GHz mark.

Memory is relaxed and is running on sync mode and also I have given plenty of Volts for my cpu and memory, nb and still not functioning...

Could this be a fsb hole? What should I do now?

Kai, I would say that your nb can't take more. All over 3GHz OC that I've seen are done with Intel's chipsets only.

Hi,

So would an increase in NB voltage work? How much can I put in NB voltage?

Are you sure I can't OC even to 2.9 GHz with my Q6600 it's running now soooo cold and I dont like the idea I have bought too good after market cooler

Yes you can push your Q6600 over the 3GHz but I think that you NB is the problem in here. It can't take it more... but I'm not the guru in OC'ing in here... let's hope that some one with experience in nvidia chipsets can share some light on this...

I'm not even at 3 GHz, I'm at 2.85 GHz =/

Tried using x8 multiplyer and it worked but once I increased FSB a little more than x8 is no help anymore...

I know. But like I said your nVidia chipset might be the issue in here.

I was able to get my Q6600 well over 3ghz on my previous 680i SLI mainboard. The bigger issue I ran into was real quad-core support that just wasn't there. - It would go beyond 3ghz very easily, I could never get it Prime stable though, and any clocks beyond 3.0 ghz made zero difference.

Kai,
If you could toss up all your current bios voltage settings (MCP/SPP voltages, MCP<->SPP volts, etc.. if present in your BIOS) I could probably help a little more. There may be a few other settings you need to change, aside from just northbridge and CPU volts.

Hi,

Thanks for the help.

So here are my specs:

NB is 1.39V
CPU Core is 1.4V
Memory is 2.178V
Vcore offset voltage is auto (can be set to +0.1v)
fsb is now 333
memory is now 667 (sync mode)
multiplyer is 9 (tried also 8x and 375 fsb no luck)
5-5-5-15 T2
every tech is disabled except execute disable bit
ldt freq is 5x

something else i need to tell?

It does not even boot to windows...

NB core voltage is now 1.56 and I tried 342 fsb and 685 memory speed and now it booted and started loading into windows but before it got into windows it restarted automatically. I'm getting closer! Now it boots but it's very unstable... I can't raise NB core it's already enough high and cpu core is 1.4v so it should be fine too.
timings are 5-5-5-15 t2... any help?!

New report:
Managed to get into Windows but when I open some apps it restarts suddenly.

CPU 1.4v, memory 1.18v something and nb voltage is 1.56v... I got it into windows by tightening timings from 5-5-5-15 t2 to 4-4-4-12 auto, gonna try t1 and some other settings, maybe lowering memory voltage because timings are at astock and also hz is under stock.

you should really be careful what you ramp up before you probably blow up your motherboard.....

make sure everything is cool running, and while your CPU is not in very much of a danger of being pumped too high, your NB chipset is....

make sure to check your temperature sensors before you ramp up your motherboard or anything else, and when in doubt, just reach into the case and feel the heat output!

This is wierd. I am able to POST with 345 FSB but not with 333 FSB. Settings are same. Sync mode. But 350 FSB is not POSTing. So I have a area between 333 and 350 FSB where I can post...

Well I guess I stop OCing today, because I made something to burn :S:S a lot of smoke came and I had to turn off my PC... the smoke came from top right below dvd drive and near a hdd device. I think a cable was burnt when it touched the hdd because they were so tight together... anyway if that's what happened then ohhh what a relief i dont need those cables... but if something like ram cpu hdd or mobo fried then that's really bad :S

now ill reorder my cables and unconnect my hdd and dvd and ill set everything to auto at bios and ill hope nothing burns anymore and its running normalyl! =/

wow..... if your HDD actually burned your cable then thats not good.... theres so way it can stand up to that kind of heat.

i really think you should stop OCing before you destroy one of the more important parts of your system.....

OCing requires that one knows a good portion of their board BIOS to OC properly, most settings need to be either set to MANUAL or ADVANCED or something of that sort and have every setting set up properly so the components run effectively.

you already have a very powerful system but not a very good board.... is there any real need to OC oyur system anyway?
