exclamation Memory/Ram question!

hey guys, i am building a new comp. from ground up i just dropped 2500 on it so far. now my question is i purchased 2 gig of ballstix tracer running at 1066 mhz and i have 2 gig of my old xps 700. now the old ram only runs at 800 mhz i was talking to the local computer store and the guy said that i can mix-match both 2 gig sets to give me a total of 4 gig, but it will run at the lowest freq. (800 mhz) <--- Is this true? would i be able to use both sets of ram? and if it is true would it be better to run 2 gig of 1066 or 4 gig of 800? thanks alot guys!

Yes it is true they will run at the lower speed. And you might have to lose the latencies as well. There are no need for 4Gb of ram if you don't use X64 version of windows. Since it's the only pc os that can handle RAM over 4 Gb.

it's just not advisable to use different memory modules that have different speed, bandwidth or IC devices on the same motherboard, however, you may be surprised to find that your motherboard's memory controller can handle the mix memory modules speed. so long as you already own both sets of the memory modules, all you need to do is to try them out at after you finished building your computer, try somehow to run them at the same memory clock and using same voltage. one set may need to be over/underclocked or both over/underclocked.

What Pang said, generally you dont wanna use 2 different sets of RAM on your board. Lots of variables to look at when the system isnt working too.

vista.
and lol charge more, get your self a new system board, new Q6600 or E6850. and after finished trying the Crucial Ballstix Tracer... try this modules Team Xtreem DDR2 1200MHz ( http://www.teamgroup.com.tw/index.ph...297&Itemid=532 ) and then you can help telling me how good they are.
