OCZ XTC Memory Cooler review *56K ok*
Today I purchased an OCZ XTC Memory Cooler. Price was $20 Canadian which I believe it a great price for such a product. The memory cooler included the cooler it self (which has 2 60mm LED fans), 4 mounting brackets, and the screws needed for installation.
Now onto the installation. The mounting of the memory cooler isn't the greatest, although I don't know if much could be done to fix this as it just rests on the DIMM clips. Once installed it is very loose, and wobbles back and forth very easily. The first time I installed it it fell off. The second time I installed it, I staggered the mounting clips, and it seems to be more secure this way. Now on to performance of the XTC Memory Cooler. Since I don't have a working unit to test temperatures, the following are not exact. TEST SYSTEM: CPU: AMD 3200+ S939 Venice with Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 @ 2.5GHz, 1.5V MOTHERBOARD: DFI NF4-D MEMORY: Kingston HyperX PC3200 2-3-2-7 @ 208MHz VIDEOCARD: ATI X850XT with Zalman VF700Cu POWER SUPPLY: OCZ Game Xtreme 700W CASE: Lian Li PC-V1000 with Yate Loon D12SL-12 exhaust fan Testing was done with the CPU heat sink at 60% speed, and the case exhaust fan at 100%. Temperatures were read from Speedfan 4.31. The following tests are with the memory @ 208MHz, 2-3-2-7, and 2.6V. With no memory cooler installed, the PWM sensor, which is located quite near the memory area on this motherboard read 45C after 20 minutes of SuperPi mod 1.4. With the memory cooler running at 60% the PWM reads 44C, a slight decrease in temperature. With the memory cooler at 100%, the PWM read 42C. Which is 3C cooler with no memory cooler installed. The following tests are done with the same settings however with the ram voltage at 3.5V (not recommended, will void warranty of memory). With no memory cooler installed the PWM sensor read 49C. With the cooler at 60%, the sensor read 47C. With the memory cooler at 100%, the temperature stayed at a cool 44C. The biggest downfall of the memory cooler, is definitely the noise. At full speed, The 60mm fans used in the OCZ XTC memory cooler are from from quiet. Although they do not have a lot of bearing noise, there is quite a big of air noise. If you are someone who needs a quiet PC and do not have a way to control the fans, then this cooler is definitely not for you. Although with the fans at 60%, they still do push out sufficient air,and cannot be heard over the rest of the system I used in the test. Overall, I believe the OCZ XTC Memory Cooler is a great Product with a great price. For functionally alone, it would be worth it in my opinion. But with the great looks, it becomes a steal. PROS: Great looks Performance CONS: Installation Noise at full speed. Here are a few pictures. ![]()

...just bummin 'round

would prolly be half as loud if the fans were open and not enclosed in theat grate thing, all that air wisping through those holes have to be noisey, also if it falls off and on the video card, is it heavy? u think it would damage it ?

If I jimmy it in with my rheostat, should help for running with all the exhaust and intake fans off (just device fans at low... stealth mode).
But even still I'm on a reborn air cooling craze, and for $20 bucks I think I'll get one ![]() Hails & respects for a job well done Lowfat and good tip about the mounting technique

damage by weight? not likely, but it would likely short something out as it is made out of steel. |
