artic silver 3 is far better, it uses much smaller particles or silver, giving it better contact.

any metallic thermal grease is MUCH better than thermal paste(yuk). The differences between brands isnt really all that much of a difference. The real difference is in the fact it's silver!

Actually Antec's product is called "Antec reference" and says in little letters that its a silver compound.
But its not really silver...its more or a brownish colour.
Ive been using this stuff lately and my temps are very good.
Im sure either one is pretty good as they both come from well known companies
and not some fake like that of an asian copy that was floating around a while back.

In figures, Arctic Silver 3 has ">9.0 W/mK" (according to specs), while Antec Reference only "8.2 W/mK". This means the Arctic product has better thermal conductivity (it's the one you want).
However, only direct experience with both products will actually tell you which one is better.
Arctic Alumina pulls 4W/mK, much less than any of the above; it is also half the price of AS3. I have read somewhere that AS3 will give you an edge of about 2-3° C over AA, so if you think temperature is not critical, AA could be the choice.
Last but not least, reliability (endurance) is to a thing to consider - none of the specs sais anything on this, and again user experience is the only source of information.

I've still got some Artic Silver II and it's working plenty fine for me. I just don't see the need to upgrade my cpu grease everytime a new type is released that claims it cuts temps two or three more degrees. If it were a substantial decrease in temps then that is different.

AS2 AND AS3 aren't very far apart, but AS3 is WAY better than the white crud that comes w/ most cpu/mb combos. I can say that from experience. I bought a combo last year, it ran at about 55c w/o O/C'ing, would climb really high when trying to OC at all. I bought some AS3 and followed directions, now my PC runs at 39-40c at stock speed and 42-43c at 1.6 to 1.7ghz Max under load is 46-47c. That is a HUGE difference.

I still have a tube of the Antec stuff laying around. I've never used any of the AS products just never got around to ordering it. My current heatsink came had a small tube of Artic Aluminuma (Spelling?) and it seems to be working very well so far. The Antec stuff is nice to use if your in a pinch, especially since Best Buy sells it. I haven't been to CompUSA in a long time what do they carry for compound?

It tells you of both, the real AS3 and the antec fake one.
The most important thing with the arctic silver 3 is to put it on the processor die in 0.003" to 0.005" thickness like so:

It's very important not to use too much (or too little). Detailed instructions can be found here: http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_s...structions.htm

another great paste
OCZ has also some thermal paste, and i've seen it beaten AS3 in tests, so this is also to consider, if your going to buy some themal paste. It's called OcZ Ultra Thermal Paste and a test on danish can be found here: http://www.tweakup.dk/article/74/dk/...59d747ddce1e38

Google does a horrible translation, actually i have never seen google ever do a translation of any use. Anyway, IF it really is better than AS3, why haven't I heard of it anywhere but some Danish site? Where are all the reviews from english speaking sites? I would like to see a product that beats AC3 reviewed by a site I trust (or at least have heard of)..Is there any out there?

Antec fake one? There is no Antec fake one. Antec just makes a similar compound.

Actually i do have the Antec stuff and all i can say is that your wrong to assume
that its a fake since your not using it..and i am.
Right now as we speek i am running my Tbred 1800+ @ 1.7v (default 1.6 ),fsb@166 (btw this is an msi board that wont give me anymore without modding) and my temps are 34c cpu 28c system and room temp about 21c
So if this is a fake then i dont know what to say.
Just cause you feel that AS3 is better(maybe in a test it is SLIGHTLY) is not a good enough reason to put down another companies product.....be carefull what you say.

hmmm
satech2001 you can't make a conclusion because of your current temperature, you have to test the same system with both thermal pastes...it might not be fake, i dont think so, it's antecs thermal paste...i dunno why people claims it to be fake...but because it's silver paste, doesn't automatically makes it as good as AS3

I heard all about the fake stuff, it was being distributed and sold AS AS3 at trade shows, flee markets, and some computer shops. It was in an UNMARKED tube that was very specific. It wasn't the antec stuff, which I am sure is a very good product.

Sorry, my mistake. I was trying to say that this:

is fake and not the antec product.
EDIT: Don't take me so seriously. Most of the time I'm stoned.

And your point would be?
Im running an XP2200+ at just a smidge under 2600+ speeds......default is 1.65 and im running it at 1.77v with a V9 that is spinning at 4500 RPMs and its at 37-38*C when idle.....and this it hasnt even been up and running a week yet like this.......they recommend a week for running before you will see the full benefits of AS3 and so far every day its been running its average temp has gone down about 1*c so by the time its burned in ill have the same temps as you.
This is not a my penis is bigger than yours competition
and as for the fake comment it had to do with some of the places like conventions and such selling a fake version of arctic silver 3 that didnt even look anything like it. So im not quite sure what youre going on about there but please enlighten us in case I misunderstood.
And if anyone sees this as flaming please let me know and I will modify the post without issue
