Overclocking the Intel E6600

Hi, I posted this in the hardware section, not realizing there was a overclocking section...

I will have my new system running in a few days which will include the E6600, the Asus P5N32-SLI SE, a 7950GX2, a Silverstone Zeus 750 watt psu, and 2gb of DDR2 800 ram.

I have never done any overclocking before but would like to OC the E6600 to probably 2.9-3.0 ghz. I will be using the Artic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro.

Will this be possible with little trouble? And would anyone be kind enough to explain the steps on how to do this? I am hoping it is just a simple few steps, I dont really know about changing ram times and voltage and such... Hopefully I dont have to mess with the ram??

I am a noob when it comes to OC, so any help will GREATLY be appreciated.

I beg you to please box up the motherboard and return it. I bought one and its the biggest pile of crap I have ever owned. I returned it and I use my P5B Deluxe.

But if you insist on keeping it here is what you do.

On the second menu across choose the first menu item on the list. Change the overclocking from AI Auto to manual. Increase the CPU voltage to 1.525 and then go on the 2nd option down and change the FSB to 1300. Leave the memory at 800.

Away you go.
But you can get 3.5ghz on air out of this processor all you need is the right board and memory.

Do you have any other bad experiences?

Thanks so much for the info, I will def have to try it when I get the pc all together

I am sorry to say you bought the worst 'enthusiest' board there is out there. nvidia's Intel chipsets, up to this poin,t are the worst overclockers to date. Since you aren't running SLI try to pick up a 965P chipset board, they overclock a wack load better than the nvidia chipsets.

I never bought this board to overclock, I just thought since I had this cpu that clocking it to the E6800 speeds wouldnt be that bad of an idea, I will not go over 3ghz. I also am planning on running 2 7950Gx2s when the funds allow for it. so I will be using SLI

It hates memory over 800mhz its a no go and cause instability.

Are there even any good 965 mobo's out? I'm looking to go Conroe and I want to OC for sure... are you going to be doing something similar (I know you're a big OCer around here ), and if so can you reccomend a relatively reasonably priced good OCing mobo?

By the way... 965P's support Pentium D's right?

Sorry to bring a thread from the dead however, I need some help.

I have the same board, unfortunatly I dind't do enough research on the board before i bought it thinking it's asus, it has a good chipset, it should overclock well.

Well obviously not... I can't hit more then 2.8 @ 1.5 on my e6600 I have a Tower 120 extreme and 4 gigs of ozc 6400 444 ram.

Anyways, any ideas how to push this bitch further? Why is it such a bad overclocker?

i've managed to get 3.6GHz with my E6600, but it didnt like msn and media player at the same time! At the moment i've set it to standard again. It's running at 20c! lol what a waste. I should have done my motherboard research too!

i got the E6600 together with the P5K-deluxe, or just look at the left for specs<-

I got this cpu to 2.9ghz with no problem whatsoever. just set the fsb to 320, kept the multi at 9x. put the core voltage to 1.3V (stock is 1.25V right?) and it posts, it games, it does everything.
runs cool: cpu ~18C, mobo ~21C

this was just experimental though, once I'm really gonna overclock (my aim is 3.6Ghz) I will stresstest and such things.

Found out that it was due to my shitty nforce 4 chipset on my sli asus board.

Got a p35 based board and running 3.2 @ 400 fsb with out any problems dind't even try higher yet.

Also added a ultra 120 extreme (thermalright) on there
