there is no maximum for any particular chip, it varies depending on many factors.. generally your system will become unstable before doing any damage to the processor.
Often things will get in the way of your overclocking potential, such as an old pci card that cannot handle going that far out of spec, or, most commonly, your memory may not be able to keep up with your processor. The only way to find out if this is happening to you is to physically replace the components and try agaim.
Just take it as far as you can go until you hit stability problems, then back off till its stable again, and that is your maximum overclock.
